Per an energy website.

If someone is at home in the daytime, 72° F is a good start, but aim for 68° F.

If everyone is away from home in the daytime, or you're asleep at night, we feel 62° F to 66° F is best.

Energy star recommendations in the summer:
78° F when you’re home
85° F when you’re at work or away
82° F when you’re sleeping

My heater is off right now. Last night it was off with a low of 42 outside. I usually don't turn the heater on unless it is in the 40s outside for an extended period of time. It takes about 15 hours of 40's outside for the house to get cool enough to warrant turning the heater on for 20 minutes every few hours or so.

I would suffocate if my heat was on 72. I put mine on 65 or 66 at most. Keeps chill off without making me want to open windows to breathe.

Oops, didn't say where. 70 is about all I can stand.

Mine is set at 66

I refused to cut the air on yesterday, was 73 in the house when I went to bed.
Was fine with the ceiling fan on, woke up around 4 & turned it off

I never touch my thermostat. I have the Nest in Heat-Cool mode between 60-70 year-round. If it dips below 60, the heat comes on. If it gets above 70, the A/C comes on.

off. I love this time of year when I can turn my fireplace on and keep my living room at an awesome cozy temp and the bedroom will be naturally chilled

Here's what comment my sister-in-law (no pics) invokes from me when I walk into their house with her 76F thermostat setting all Winter long.
