What about the wildlife?

That $87 million in revenue is over 30 years. The 300 jobs is during the peak construction period.

I don’t see anything on tax incentives or abatements or similar. Is this a tax equity project with companies taking advantage of the fraudulently named inflation reduction act spending?

They consume vast acres of farm land which we desperately need for agriculture

We don’t desperately need land for agriculture, the government pays land owners not to plant crops to drive the price up

Every solar project has tax equity. It was going on well before the IRA.

You may mean is this a DCA project and that is dependent on the equipment but the odds are pretty much zero that it would have been DCA eligible.

I’m glad you brought this up and I’d love to have this conversation so I hope you don’t just downvote and runaway. It’s an important thing for people to understand if they want to know what’s happening in the world around them beyond BoomerBook talking points.

You think the community of Gillis will benefit from a solar farm?

ETA the already wealthy land owners will benefit from leasing their land and none of the power generated will supply local power. It would generate a handful of local jobs because solar farms don’t require upkeep.

So we oppose new business ventures because the owners will make money? I have heard and seen a lot on the OT, but this brand of socialism is new to me on here.

a single nuclear power plant produces exponentially more electricity than a solar farm.

How come they ain't pushing to cover parking lots with these instead of farmland? I know it'd probably be a lot more expensive but if they're that worried about the environment it seems like they would be trying to utilize land that's already been developed instead of taking away habitat/farmland.

if this was raised and you could park under it would shade cars. Cool the area. Not get rained on getting in and out of car. Brilliant!

They own the land so why do you care?

I don't live in Gillis so I don't care. However, the people that live in Gillis do care and they don't want it next to their property, as would most people. This was clearly stated in the OP, which I was responding to.

Better question would be, why are these solar companies targeting generally poor hurricane prone rural areas for solar farms?

for the first part, people that think fracking is evil use the same argument "our neighbors can't do that around us because we don't like it because some talking head told us its bad"

For the second part these are going to properties that have direct access to major electric transmission lines & substations all over not just the hurricane coast, they are not just throwing darts at a map. Rural undeveloped land is going to be cheaper than urban centers to lease

I love the people that parrot the energy independence political talking point but do not support any solar or wind farms or fuel efficiency standards

Can we eat solar energy? Bc that’s what it’s doing. Taking up farmable land and turning it into horse shite.

In addition, the US exports approximately 50% of its agricultural production. We don’t need more farmland and could feed ourselves with a lot less.

Solar farms suck up all the solar energy in the area which causes wide spread crop failures and below freezing temperatures near the solar farms year round.

Below freezing temps nearly year round in the south?
