I ask how do people who drink every day (or frequently) after work function.

gym
house plants or gardening
wood working
diy projects
wash/clean your vehicle
read books (current Harlan Coben for me)
walk dog or take dog to hike
cook something new

So are you saying you drank with your dad for Father’s Day?

I get off of work at 6, then go lift weights from 6:15-8. Then go home, eat, shower, pack whatever I need for work the next day.

On days I’m off from working out, play with kid, video games, or watch something on tv

After work I will typically hang out with my dogs in the back yard and knock down a few beers while smoking a cigar. Most nights I'll have something going on the grill, and I'll usually come in the house around 9 or 10 o'clock. I'll usually go through 6 to 8 lite beers during this time frame.

Its very obvious you have an alcohol problem. You know it. Its up to you to deal with it.

Bro...just keep doing exactly what you're doing except don't drink or smoke. Why do you have to be in an altered state to enjoy being outside with your dog enjoying nature and life in general?

Depends on the weather. I’ll do some garden maintenance (when Sun is in the back of the house instead of the front), watch TV, workout, do some crafty shite, read, etc.

I work in the yard, play with the dogs, get something done in the workshop or just simply relax.

I go the gym, go home and walk the dog, then cook dinner and eat, shower, be lazy for about 2 hours until its time to sleep

I will maybe have a glass of bourbon one of those nights if a good game is on but most nights I do not drink anything

I've quit drinking in the past month and was like you...this was gonna be boring without a glass or two of wine. After the first 2 weeks though I don't even think about it. And activities for me are the same, just not "enhanced" with alcohol. Work in my garden, cut down brush, work on some vehicle, paint or build something. Always something to do. I do listen to podcasts (or the Tigers) and/or call and catch up with people.

Seriously, after a period of weeks, you won't miss it or even think about it. And this is from someone who did like you did for 30 years. And why give it up? It's all about how you will feel the next morning. I love mornings now.

Sometimes I just do nothing. I don't have a constant need to do something.

Stopped saving for college, long ago. He's going to play in the majors. Allows for more beer money, so I can drink while playing with the dogs.
