I applied to like 20 schools and compared scholarships, LSU offered a full ride so it was a no brainer

Going off memory
U of Illinois
Tulane
Drake
Butler
Auburn
UGA
LSU
Dayton
Duquesne
Marquette
Roosevelt (yeah… you probably never heard of it)
Southern Illinois
Ohio University (strong contender because I wanted to do journalism)
Ball State
DePaul
Loyola Chicago

If you needed letters of recommendation or some shite like that, it was off my list

Never considered any college other than LSU. Valuzzo/McDs reimbursed me for my tuition. All you had to do:
- work 20 hrs every week (not avg)
-maintain a 2.5 GPA
-be an employee in good standing.
At the end of the semester, submit grades and you got a check. First semester in ‘84 it was $376. Last semester in ‘88 it was over $1,100

Musician here. I had 15 scholarship offers including one from Juilliard school of music. Decided to go to LSU because I wanted to be in the Golden Band from Tigerland. Dumb move at the time, but proved to work out for me later in life.

Gave up music and built a wonderful career after that. Comfortably retired at 61. I contribute my success in life as a musician because of the practice and dedication that is required to excel, not only in music but in every endeavor.

I remember in high school, the college Colgate sent me an unsolicited glossy brochure after I took the ACT/SAT. The cover featured an archetypal autumnal hill covered in blazing New England foliage and idyllic buildings. I was enchanted. I showed it to my parents. They chuckled and asked where I was going to get the money to attend, assuming I got in.

The only two schools I seriously considered were Missouri and LSU, both of which offered me full scholarships. I chose the right Tigers.

Nah, it's in Queens.

It's a very small university. We do not even have a basketball team.

Was 1983. I was slightly older (like 20) and working. Was looking for a city were I could transfer and sell computers for Tandy Biz Products. I had to work and pay my way through. Also wanted to be somewhat near my folks who lived in FWB.

Considered:
Gainesville for UF
Tallahasee for FSU
Baton Rouge for LSU

Baton Rouge had a kick-arse office, with a top 5 monthly average for sales (out of 150 or so). I could simply make more money there. Was a good choice all around.

Had lots of options. Followed HS girlfriend to LSU. Broke up shortly after my first sorority exchange. In retrospect, both turned out to be good decisions.
