I applied to one college, Ohio State. I was an athlete and if I knew I would get in academically there and was on scholarship so was more just putting those together. I would have applied to A&M as the TX school in case something went wrong but was in at OSU before the application was due.

I applied to one law school, U of Miami. I had been working for three years and if I didn't get in, would have just worked one more year and then figured things out. I would have applied to UCLA/USC but my LSAT ended up worse than my pre-tests. One stupid reading comp story ruined me

Undergrad: LSU
Grad School: Georgia Southern

I had TOPS for LSU and I was a GA at Georgia Southern. Didn't have much debt when I finished.

For undergrad, I considered Michigan (Dad's Alma Mater), Georgetown (best friend attended) , and Carnegie Melon (I really enjoyed Randy Pausch's last lecture).

For grad school, it was West Virginia, Michigan, Tennessee, LSU, UNLV, East Carolina, Texas State, UNO, Oakland (all school's in which I had GA opportunity's).

I was considering Brown or Cornell, but I decided on Southeastern.

I applied to few and got most of them, dont even remember.

End of the day i was a Louisiana boy, my parents went to LSU so it was a strong pull already. TOPS at my time was paying for every year of tuition and giving a decent stipend ontop of that. I mean, free college is hard to say no to. So LSU it was.

Smart dad.

Undergrad doesn’t matter much in most fields that require a grad degree so much better to have fun up front and max out academics at the next stop.

Applied to Tulane, UNO, LSU, & USL.

Got full tuition academic scholarships (No TOPS back then in the late 80’s) at all of them except for Tulane whose tuition was ridiculous high, none paid for room / board though so ended up going to USL so I could live at home - we were poor. Took Engineering and then Computer Science so USL was a good choice, and I got to go to school with my girlfriend and then wife so it all worked out.

Was considering a bigger school like MIT or something but the Navy rescinded a $50K scholarship after I didn’t have the balls to lie about my asthma during my physical. I remember the female navy doc was cute. Was worried they’d make me pay it back if I couldn’t hack basic, I know navy basic is a joke but my asthma was bad back then and I couldn’t run much. Dropped out of the HS football team after almost hacking up a lung at practice - they didn’t have 100 guys on the bench back then like they do now, you actually had to be able to play to make the team.

My sister got a masters at LSU so I have since adopted them as a sports fan.
