How/why I wound up at LSU--

Neither of my parents went to college, so no connection there... Never went to any LSU sporting events other than a March Madness game in the Superdome in 1981; kinda liked the late 70s/early 80s Dale Brown b-ball teams... only went to LSU campus for academic rally competitions and then Boys State in summer 1981. As a HS senior, had no interest in going to LSU; I wanted to go far away (from my family, primarily my a-hole stepfather at the time) and saw LSU as "high school plus", where almost all of my classmates were going.

So I got a scholarship to Trinity University in San Antonio, and went there. Big mistake; rich kids' small school and I had to deliver pizzas at night to make pocket money... friends at LSU called me on Saturday nights drunk after games, and the Tigers were having a great year in football, so I decided I would transfer after one year out west.

Best decision I ever made.

Had a blast with friends from home who were at LSU; met lots of new friends (and girls), became a huge Tiger fan in all sports. Really enjoyed my 3 college years there; graduated on time (Spring '86) with a BA in Poli Sci, minor in English, accepted to all 4 law schools I applied to... I think that IF I would have gone to LSU for law school I would have liked it more and stuck with it.

Since then, became an even bigger tiger fan-- LSU football season tickets, tailgate for every game, went to Omaha and saw baseball team win world series, etc.

Wife is a LSU med school grad; both daughters are LSU grads as are my nephews.

Funny thing is the two friends who called me on those Saturday nights and were an impetus for me to transfer didn't last at LSU; they (like many others) later wound up going home and finishing at UNO.

My mom got her masters at LSU after undergraduate at SLU. I got my bachelors and masters at LSU. I grew up in Baton Rouge and my entire family were always LSU fans. My dad used to tell me stories of when he was young going to football games. We'd always get together with family to watch football and basketball. Good food. Good times.

Lots of family went to LSU. Grew up going to Skip Bertman baseball camp and John Brady basketball camp.

Did not attend LSU because it was basically free to go anywhere else in the state. Did not want to have to take out loans for undergrad because I was planning on doing something that requires an advanced degree

Degree in 1983 but more importantly a season ticket holder (albeit as a child) since 1966.

I graduated from LSU (Class of 1991) 50 yrs to the day that my grandfather did (Class of 1941). Best thing about it was he and my grandmother (Class of 1940?) were both at my graduation as a member of the Golden Tigers. LSU Alumni magazine heard about it, took our pic and it made the magazine.

I moved from NOLA Diehard Tulane fan as my parents went there and my Grandparents lived 2 blocks away from the old Tulane stadium. I hated LSU then we moved so I pulled for all Louisiana schools, then I went to my first game in Baton Rouge in late 70s and That was it for me! I love My Tigers! I still love Tulane but even my Dad Loved LSU...it Is The State School!

Born there while my father was getting his degree and becoming an Army officer.
Got a degree and met my wife there.
Brother and his wife went there.
Our children went there.
We were pretty tied to LSU.
But we all got scattered after that.

I grew up in NOLA area. I went there because I had a full academic scholarship and most of my HS friends went there. My sister went there as well. That is going to be about it for any of my family going there. My mom went to college somewhere else. My kids sure as shite are not going there living in Texas. My sister ‘s kids might go there since she still lives around NOLA area.

My brother was the first of our lineage to go to college - LSU '45/55 - education interrupted by Korean War - Civil Engineer, Brown&Root - lived in Baton Rouge the rest of his life.

I went in 1956/60 - Pershing Rifles - Electrical Engineer

My granddaughter went in 2005 - Golden Girls - Business

All solid LSU fans our entire lives.

The digital age began while I was at LSU - was invited to a demonstration during my last year - was told that with this machine, you could add .000001 to 100,000 (or something like that) - I left immediately thinking "there's no application for THAT."

That’s one thing that makes LSU difficult. There’s so many distractions.

Started at LSU for undergrad and made it 1.5 semesters before finishing at a regional school. The distractions previously mentioned were my demise.

Didn’t love that I didn’t have a degree from LSU so I did grad school and got a masters from LSU.
