believe it or not, us college kids do utilize them. great for group study rooms with a whiteboard, typing papers when you have to find articles out of ancient books that you cant find online, tutor sessions for kids, and they also have great books that i like to check out when reading daily devotionals.
by the way, what is the point of a public library, was the subject verb agreement you were looking for.

Public libraries have adapted incredibly well to our age, actually. Not only do they have many thousands of books (still), they have digital subscriptions for every periodical, science magazine, newspaper, and whatever else you could possibly think of. They are still some of the ultimate repositories of knowledge. They provide free internet access and free access to digital knowledge (that usually requires a fee, but libraries provide for free) that would otherwise be inaccessible.
They provide free internet access to a whole heck of a lot of people. They have beautiful architecture in many cities. They remain public places of neutral meeting and community building in many, many communities.
I think the role of public libraries should be greatly expanded with commensurate budget support. The librarian is still a trusted figure in our society along with the military officer and the doctor. A lot of good could come from it.
Holy crap, that's articulate for a monkey, and THAT is the reason libraries should exist. If a monkey can put all that together from hanging around a place which only exists to stockpile and share human knowledge, I wonder why OP can't figure it out.

Can't help but notice a monkey has perfect subject/verb agreement through all of its post, but OP failed that right up front in the title of the post.
I wonder why.
EDIT: To bring all you non-library users up to speed, I'm calling OP a fricking idiot.

Libraries are always packed around here, but, then again, I live in a concentrated area of people.

Use it for when I have to stop and use a clean public restroom.

I see you have no idea what you're talking about. Congratulations on being clueless.

My husband goes to the library every week. Returns books and gets more. He uses his Kindle, but he also still enjoys actual books. He gets audio books for his car at the library, too.
Public libraries still have value to a community. There are events for children and a lot more.
Also, don't be an a-hole and think that everybody has access to the same things you have.

Libraries are for people who pretend the internet doesn’t exist.

When was the last time you've been to one? In today's age, I feel as if public libraries have become unnecessary because of the technology that the average person has available to them. So why not get rid of them and save some money?
This thread hasn't gone the way you expected.

I take my kids to a public library several times a month and let them pick out books.
I am even teaching them the Dewey decimal system like i learned as a kid.

I took my 7 year old to the library yesterday. He loves it and is an avid reader. We own tons of books but he's more enthusiastic about reading the ones he picks from the library. He gets his own card and learns to be responsible not to lose or damage books and return them on time. We're not poors by any means.

I use the Overdrive App to check out ebooks from the EBR Liberry. I wish our tax $ would be put into improving this experience. The App they use and the titles available just downright suck.

How about you get the government to steal from someone else besides me for a change
I say shut the libraries down

The point of public libraries is - people still read books...people still read...libraries contain books and other things to read...libraries exist to introduce new generations to the magic world of books, imagination and reading...and they exist to baffle the illiteratti and others who refuse to read or who will only choose the digital route or who just haven’t picked up the joy of reading and live in a gray boxed world.

I haven't been to a library in years.
Having said that, I have zero issues with my tax dollars being used to support them. Libraries are a tremendous resource for the community and ensure that everyone, no matter their socioeconomic status, has access to knowledge.
...and I'm probably one of the most rabid libertarians around here.
