My grandmother ran a small neighborhood grocery store. There were grab bags there. Bet most people here never heard of that. There used to be Rat Fink rings in them.

My grandmother always had extra strips of pie dough left over when she'd bake a pie so she'd put sugar and cinnamon on them and bake them. One of my fondest food memories as a kid.

Cornbread and milk
It’s not that it taste great, just reminds me of my grandfather and wanting to eat it as a kid just because he was.

I don’t know - my grandma always had lots of stuff
She made her own pralines and fudge, and she always made cakes
We’d gain like 10 pounds if we went over there for a week because she also cooked plenty of good food

- homemade ice cream from a maker they had in their freezer
- when I stayed the night, waffles with butter flavored syrup (mom and dad always got the regular flavor)
- coffee milk with tons of sugar
- sugar in our cereal
- cranberry juice “wine” in the teeny tiny wine glasses they had (I assume looking back they were digestif glasses)
Posts in this thread reminding me of ones I forgot. Definitely had plenty Wethers Originals from Paw Paw. Grandpa had orange slices and circus peanuts. And those shortbread cookies with the hole in the middle.

Dilly bars from Dairy Queen in Opelousas.
Whole raw carrot with Tony Chachere’s spinkled on top. Back then, Tony’s was the only prepackaged mixed creole/Cajun seasoning.
