I think they were around 16. It was their decision when they wanted to do it. I think 1 year old is a bit too young though.

Eta: Wife says they were 13, not 16. Heck, what do I know?

No it's not. Every girl wants her ears pierced just like every guy wants to be clipped. I'd much rather have it done when I can't remember the experience. And if your daughter doesn't want her ears pierced, she's probably a bull dyke lesbo anyway

I will let my daughter decide when she's old enough if she wants to poke holes in her ears that will grow in if she changes her mind.

I also had my sons circumcised before we left the hospital.

Most pierce their daughters ears fairly young. I know my sister did it to my 2 nieces at a fairly young age, although I don't think it was at 1. I think it was closer to 5 or 6 or so. I may be wrong on the age, but I know it was fairly young.

That said, if your wife wants to do it at that age, I say let her. There are bigger battles you'll need to stand your ground for, I'm not sure ear piercing at a young age is one if those. Plus, it's her "little angel girl", and she'll be able to dress her up and put earrings on her, which will make your wife happy because women enjoy doing things like that.

I say just let her do it. Your battles will be fought when your daughter becomes a teenager and starts to become interested in boys. Good luck.

This was my mom's rule, so I was 18 when I got mine pierced. She had seen some earring infection cases in an Audiology class and decided then she didn't want her minors to have them.

There is a higher risk of infection if you get a baby's ears pierced.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has the recommendation of waiting until the child is mature enough to take care of the pierced site on their own.

The OT calling little kids trashy, why am I not surprised?

A lot of mothers pierce their daughter's ears at a young age. Maybe not at 1, but at a young age. They like dressing them up and showing their friends how cute their babies are.

Let the mother decide.

I think you are correct and this is a slippery psychological slope as a practice in general. This is obviously something your wife wants herself and for show, the baby is clueless. Before she starts this vicarious exhibition and public display through her child... first of all, does she fully understand exactly why she wants to do this and where will it stop? You may horrified to see how far this can actually go.

Slacker. Mine got hers done in the womb. Came out with 2 round brilliant cut diamond earrings on 24k studs.

My daughter got her ears pierced when she was almost 7. She decided she wanted to and had done a great job of taking care of them.

At least my view is supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Your view is supported by uneducated white people and hispanics.

Probably will somewhere around 12-13.

I imagine at that point, she will just drive me absolutely insane about it till i finally just say whatever, just shut up about it

I made my first daughter wait until 13. 1 to 8 is certainly inappropriate imo. 10-12 is gray area.
