It's the dog that appeals to the most diverse cross section of this country.

White trash, black trash, hispanic trash, asian trash....they all love pit bulls.

the problem is the term is too generic since there are so many mixes/mutts these days. and "pit bull" has just become the catch all terms for a large amount of breeds

example, can you pick which of these is the pitbull (american staffordshire terrier)?
Meh. I can certainly pick out boxers and cane corsos. But any decent HOA or municipality which attempts to address "vicious breeds", usually does a good job of encompassing most of the ones in your graphic. I don't care about names - I care about capacity for mayhem. And basically all of those in the graphic have a very high capacity.

That still doesn't get you anywhere close to 50% like he theorized in the OP.
Well i think he was referring to his specific dog park and he stated at least 20% but sometimes seems more

I think the common reason it seems this way is because the current popularity of rescuing dogs and the amount of dogs at shelters that have some form of breed that would be classified as pit bull mixed in

pitt-style dogs and their universality across all racial trash groups just shows the universality of some lower class mindset values

in this instance, it's the high cultural value placed on physical aggression. pitt-type dogs are symbols of this b/c of the public's perception

And that number still seems extraordinarily high for any park with more than 4 dogs present.

Seems like that would be highly dependent on neighborhood

for instance, you would swear that 60% of dogs in my area are french bulldogs

Saying there are 20 dogs at a park and 4 have some form of pit bull breed in them does not Seem "extrordinarily" high or all that unbelievable to me

If a dog has a cabbage-looking head, squinty eyes and built like Schwarzenegger, then they will probably be called a Pitbull by most.

Bitches are strong and healthy and probably lose very few of their puppies before or during birth.
Bitch litters are big, like 6+.
quote:

Normally, big sized dogs will have more puppies due to the space to carry. A big size female pit bull can have up to 10 puppies in her first litter. In her second litter, a female pit bull dog can deliver up to 14 healthy puppies. The average delivery at a time is 6 puppies.

Bitches breed readily. Are you going to try to stop a lookalike male when he's "interested"?

That means more puppies.

I just don’t see the fascination for a pit bull.

Give me a sweet, loving golden retriever anyday.

Circa which year do you estimate this crossed over?

not in my area at least. we walk ours in the neighborhood and off leash them in a massive green space a block behind our neighborhood or at seldomly used disc golf park a few blocks away.

but yes, it is 50%+ pit mixes if you go to a public dog park. which is exactly why i don't take my pure bred vizsla or my wife's miniature poodle to dog parks. i don't want their $100 mutt killing or maiming my well behaved dogs, then me going to jail because i beat the frick out of the owner.

IMO: pit mixes should be banned from public dog parks.

All they need is the cabbage head for most to say it's a pitbull.

That picture has purposely deceptive pictures making it even harder to distinguish between the bully or molossus type dogs. My kids aren't allowed around any pit or bull type dogs.

Short face wide head you are dead is our saying. I also teach them how to properly play with all dogs.

I agree. When I say "pit bull", it inherently includes "American Staffordshire Terriers" - as well as dogs that are obviously a significant % "American Staffordshire Terrier".
