Just don't use the ones that go in the end of your barrel. There is a chance that it could damage the crown. They are often way off anyway.

Trust me. I don't judge all dog guys by these people. They would bring in a flatbed trailer load and loose them on their 50 acres. They leased the 775 acres of Roy O Martin land next to their property. It gave them a way to run dogs on their lease and not lose it. The dogs would stay on their side for a couple days and they would all end up on us. They would tear up our trash and one even went sleep in someone's bed, lol. They were emaciated by the end of the season. They ended up losing their Roy O property when the land man finally saw for himself what they were doing. They got away with it for many years.
Just depends on how good the taxidermist is. The guy that's good enough for me starts at $650 for shoulder mounts. The really good ones charge over $1,000. It can definitely be seen in their work. My guy had to go up on his price because he was getting too much business.
Asio has a unique fit. I ordered their merino base layers, and am seriously thinking about returning them. I can handle the longish sleeves on the shirt, but the bottoms fit almost like pajama pants. You would have to be one big calf M-fer for them to fit correctly below the knee. A coworker warned me about this before I ordered. I should have listened.
Well, the state values them more than crappie. Go look at the limits.
They are great in a gravy. The small ones are good fried. The meat on the older ones can be "hard" and inedible. The gou pros can tell if they will be good as soon as they catch them. My grandfather would fish them in certain places because of the way they tasted and the chance of catching a blue gou. That was like gold to those old men. It meant an instant supper.
Like someone said, throw them on ice as soon as you catch them.

A lot of pen deer have white antlers. Something definitely injured that one side while he was in velvet. That's the only thing that says pen deer to me. You would be surprised what is killed along the river that never gets publicized. We used to hunt a place that had a 230" deer on the wall, and part of one side was broken off. They never had it officially scored or entered into any books. A guy killed a 186" out there several years ago and ran to the LA sportsman with it. The land owner got pissed. That piece of shite that charges people with trespassing on Saline lake owns that property now.
Also, the NE LA genetics were downgraded if anything by the imported deer. The literature is available on the LDWF website if anyone feels like digging it up. LA can very easily grow a wild deer like that.

Very true. I got out of a place because of the neighbors dog habits. Nothing like sitting around the fire listening to the dog running deer all night long on our lease. They made zero effort to pick them up. They ran loose the entire season.

Who the hell said anything about 300 win mags? The recoil hating small bore crowd always resorts to arguing like a woman when the the cartridge they marry themselves to get criticized.
Yes, killing broadside does and spikes doesn't take much. Using a mono or bonded bullet from a 243 or smaller is the smartest projectile choice. You can make a good shot and have a very hard time finding your deer or simply wound it. Yes, small bores can kill anything. However, they are not ideal, and it takes great discipline to use them effectively, meaning you have to give up a lot of shot angles and distance. Bullet choice dictates what shots are possible.
Again, deer hunting with small bore varmint type cartridges will bite you in the arse. People today have become so recoil sensitive it's pathetic. Stop believing the industry on everything. Remember my words when your setup fails. Good luck taking a quartering away shot on a 200# on up buck that over 100 yards away. Get that dog ready. Good luck when those small dia high BC cup n core bullets go to shite on impact. Good luck when you don't have an exit.
22's and 6mm's for serious deer hunting is retarded. Keep that shite in the TX hill country. I had the pleasure of being in a club with 243 lovers. I have also had the pleasure of guiding for years. 243"'s on down the cartridge scale have fed the buzzards well in my time. The last thing I would give a kid is a 243. At least give a them 6.5 CM with barnes or bonded bullets or a 30-30.
When you people get over 100 hundred deer under your belts and have watched over 100 animals of many species get shot come back and talk to trash. It's not if but when shooting baby cartridges will fail you. It's not an if but when shooting exploding bullets like SST, Berger, ELDX, Match Bullets, or other thin jacketed shite cup n core bullet will bite you in the arse. Get some life experience. Frontal diameter and a bullet holding together means everything. Not every lost animal is due to a bad shot and most people are not good shots.
Shoot a cartridge with reasonable diameter, reasonable power, and a bullet that can hold together so that you have some margin for error.

100% trolling but also not lying. Plucking is part of the hunt. You people are lazy. There is more to cooking duck than frying or grilling the breast. It isn't hard to pluck a limit of ducks. Duck pluckers are a thing too.

Using varmint cartridges to shoot deer is asinine. That includes the 243. Every time someone brings a bad personal experience the foolishness starts. It's not an if but when it will bite you. The baby gun crowd acts like all the bigger cartridges were developed for no reason. Get out of here with that crap.
You pluck ducks. Breasting is plain sinful and lazy.

Most people have never even practiced at 200 much less past that. If they do it's on a lead sled so they are still delusional. The first time I shot off a back pack at a 8" plate 200 yards away I was served humble pie. I practiced at 300 before going OK a few years ago. It paid off as I bang flopped one at 250 from a shite rest.

There is nothing more disgusting than a grey duck that's been living in the marsh.
Ringnecks are always good.
I have never personally had a bad spoony.
Until the "duckmen" shite all over bluewings on TV, I had never heard of anyone not liking them.
I have fed pan seared merganser to people and they didn't know any better. Even though it tasted pretty good I couldn't get over what I was eating.

Ram (best tranny, good motors)
Ford(hurts to have them at 2. Decent engines 2nd best transmission)
Maybe Tundra at 3 for the sake of picking 3
...
GM has too many problems with trans and engines. I wouldn't consider one.

They all suck horribly and are crowded. The best part is not killing shite and having to deal with idiots. It isn't worth the effort.
re: Let's talk buying tires...
Posted by mrcoon on 9/22/25 at 8:32 am to SouthernInsanity
I get prices on what I want from all the shops within reasonable driving distance. I also let them know I am calling around for pricing. Often they will compete with each other. On a few occasions I waited a day or two and called the same place for pricing and got a wildly different price.
It is upsetting how ridiculously high everything has gotten. When I priced the Hankook MT2's last fall they were more than double from when I got them 5 years ago. I ended up buying some fake Kelly's. The Kelley Safari MT's are actually Cooper MTP's and don't last like all Cooper MT's. I will be lucky if they make it though January. I am not getting them again. I will go back to Jap tires. They seems to actually understand not every MT goes on a Jeep that stays parked for more than half the year.

I was in your shoes and made my first handgun purchases this year.
Concealed carry/bedside for the wife: S&W 632 Ultimate Carry 32 H&R Magnum
I chose a Canik Mete MC9 to keep on me: Mete MC9
Finally, I bought a SAR9 Mete for a home defense gun. I am still trying to decide what light and sights to put on it. It is going to live at my bedside: SAR9 METE

Maybe that bearing is wearing out on my 2015 DCT. I got mine new from Great River Honda in 2016. It has been well used and borderline abused. I had my first problem two years ago when I went too quickly down a steep drop and the transmission shifted between gears and got stuck. It would not shift. I was stranded until I solved a riddle my buddy told me on how to find the damn emergency nut to manually shift the thing back to neutral. So here is the PSA:
There is a weird looking wrench tool in the kit on these bikes. It fits a nut/bolt head on the front of the motor near where the front drive shaft comes out of the motor. Turning this nut allows you to shift the transmission into whatever position you need it in. It isn't very big and you can't look at it and get the wrench on it at the same time if you have your plastics on. It is much easier to find if you remove the plastics. The pic below shows the location:
I changed my oil after that incident, and it didn't happen again that year. Last year I had zero issues. A couple months ago it did it again so I changed my oil. I am taking it to the shop if it happens another time.

re: Can good deals still be found in pawn shops?

The pawn shop down the road sells beat up stuff from harbor freight for more than it costs new. The only thing in there that is somewhat reasonable are the guns. Everything else is a ripoff.
Neither, both are pieces of crap. Get a Honda.
