re: New deer rifle for my 21 year old daughter

Stonewall, play with this tool. It's pretty interesting. Recoil Claculator
I spent weeks obsessing over a 6.5 x 55 swede, 708, and 308 for my girls. This made me feel better about the 308. With the 130 grain barnes the recoil is very mild. I wanted a 708 but the Stevens 308 was cheap and they didn't have a 708. If they did, I would have bought one.

I got my 14 year old 100# daughter a Savage Stevens 334 in 308 last year. I cut an inch and a half off the stock, put a Simms slip on 1" butt pad, and put a timney trigger in it. That damn gun is a tack driver. It loves the Barnes 130 grain ammo. It shoots a legit .5 to.75" groups at 100 yards. The first time she pulled the trigger on it, my daughter said "this one's fun to shoot daddy!" I liked it so much I hunted with her gun all year.
Recoil fear is taught. Kids deserves a gun and ammo that won't fail them when they make a less than perfect shot at the perfect angle. 6.5 CM on down loaded with exploding trash bullets like ELDX don't cut it. That 308 with the 130 grain barnes load is a low recoil death laser. No matter how close the deer is the bullet wont go to shite and not reach vitals in a meaningful manner nor will it fail to exit. Its expanding to a good diameter, cutting more tissue, and making a bigger exit for blood.

I have the H25LR. How much different is the 35R?
SSS all of them.
Just depends on the tree size. I would get the Goliath if you won't be toting it around a lot.
I dumped climbers for saddle hunting. I lugged a climber around since the 90's, and I am never going back.

No dude, they dog hunted them until there was nothing left.
Kisatchie has rebounded since the dogs went away, and now all the dog people or clamoring to get in there to kill everything.

We are nowhere near close to carrying capacity in 90% of this state

Negative, we used to have a million deer in the late '90s and early 2000s. It dropped to around 400,000. We might be up to a half a million now.
Believe it or not, I think some people hang their hat on how shitty it is here. If everyone that bought a big game license in Louisiana would kill just 3 deer we would have zero deer left. Yet the limit is 6 and we have 80-90 day gun seasons. It makes zero sense.
The 280 Remington is the best all around cartridge ever created. I've killed more deer and hogs with it than anything else I own. You really don't need anything more.
400 yards is too far for a 308. Get a 7BC, fast twist 7 mag, or 300 short mag. Don't give in to the recoil fear being put out by influencers. With a suppressor or muzzle break non of what I mentioned will kick at all. They aren't bad at all without a device. Bullet choice is key in all of this. If you run solid copper your impact velocity needs to stay 2000fps and above. You can get away with slower speeds with bonded. With cup and core like ELDX and SST you run the risk of the bullet fragmenting on impact at higher velocities. I once had a Hornady rep tell me not to shoot anything under 150 yards away with SST bullets. I found out why for myself. I had a bullet failure and almost lost a deer. Shot placement doesn't mean shite when your bullet breaks apart before it gets to the good stuff. I switched to Barnes after that and never had another problem.
As for scopes, I am a huge Trijicon fan. They are durable and have great glass. Mavin makes great scopes too. Good old Leupolds are super light, but they don't have the same durability they had in the past. Burris has some really good stuff too. I have the new Fullfield on a 308 I built last year. I hunted with it all of last season. I was highly impressed. Its got way better glass than my older Leupolds and Nikons.

re: Drop y’all’s bass rod and reel combos

I have about 40 combo's so that's too many to list off hand. 90% of my rods are Powell Endurances. 90% of my reels are Shimano. Most of my casting reels are Curado K's and M's. I have a couple SLX XT's, an SLX DC, and a Scorpion 24. My spinning reels are Sahara's and Miravel's.
I've been doing this for 30 years. There isn't a better buy in reels than the new Curados's and the SLX XT. They are stand out. The Scorpion is worth it if you feel like waiting for delivery from Japan.
As for rods the Powell Endurances rods are a tremendous deal at $160. They compare to most $200+ rods.
All that said, it's a good time to be buying rods and reels from most of the major brands. Everything is so much better today than it was even 10 years ago.

Any Honda. They rest will cost you too much in maintenance.
I have used and abused a couple of Yukon soft coolers for years. They are worth the money. You have to lube the zippers every once in awhile. Other than that they are zero maintenance.

Non-selective nature of common herbicides: Glyphosate (e.g., Rodeo, AquaNeat) is systemic and primarily targets foliage it contacts directly when sprayed on floating salvinia. However, in real-world applications—especially with high spray volumes, wind drift, overspray, or when salvinia mats sink after dying—some product reaches the water column or submerged leaves. Surfactants (adjuvants) added to help the spray stick to salvinia's waxy "egg-beater" hairs can also increase runoff or penetration.- from the LSU Ag Center
Tank mixes amplify effects: State crews often mix glyphosate with faster contact herbicides like diquat, carfentrazone, or flumioxazin for quicker visible results on thick mats. These contacts kill plant tissue on contact and can affect any submerged vegetation the spray mist or runoff reaches. Diquat, for example, is a strong contact that works well on salvinia but isn't selective for submerged natives.- From the LSU Ag Center

The poison the state sprays kills the submergent vegetation along with the floating. Anyone that claims otherwise is in denial.
We will find out if the state uses good or bad science. I believe the latter. How can lower limits and increased minimum lengths work so well everywhere else but not here?
Chicot for instance went to dog shite in just a couple years after removing the slot. The state claimed the slot wasn't working because of what they saw in the gill nets. They put zero credence in what the anglers were saying. The big fish went away and the numbers went away. The lake has too much pressure for state rules.

Concordia is in the same boat as Saline Larto. They are fished out. Fingers crossed the reg changes on Saline work out. It may get the state to make changes everywhere. There is no reason to keep the same creel limits we have always had given the boom in pressure over the last 10 years.

Exactly, we do the opposite of what makes every other state better than us at wildlife management. I am praying the changes made at Saline Larto work. If so, the state may realize the err of their stubborn ways. There is no reason for the ridiculously liberal creel limits on most state waters. I hope you guys realize that the state protects gou more than sacaulait.
All that said, LA relies on sampling from gill nets and shocking. They sample the exact same spots year after year. Supposedly these surveys don't show any decilnes. I didn't ask about Toledo but there is no way they can say nothing changed over there. Anyway, pressure is up 10X over the last 10 years according to my source in the LDWF. He thinks that's why fishing is so much worse overall. They can't propose changes to regs without data to present to the deeply crooked wildlife commission. Even if they had the data to show change is needed the commission still might not accept the changes. They are the problem.

It is very good. It's a lot better than Caribou. Besides just pan searing steaks, I have made chili, and spaghetti with it. I wouldn't turn it down if someone offered you some.
