Louisiana used to winter the most canada geese in the flyway. They started feeding them and the migration completely halted . It is well documented. Mallards behave very similar to canada geese, and they have always worried the same could happen with them. Everything that is going on right now is not a surprise. Article after article was written back in the day by biologists foreshadowing todays current conditions. Do not let the corn people gaslight you. They are all full of shite. They are the same types who claim high fence hunting is real hunting and crossbows belong in archery season.
I don't care what that satanic bundle of sticks wants.
Only stupid leftists that don't understand nuance think that way. Attacking cops while they are doing their job isn't considered free speach. Also, we have no country if we have open borders. As usual you people are too stupid to understand anything. Why was everything okay when Obama did it. That guy actually put kids in cages.

I like my Hardcore Waterfowl bibs for duck hunting, fishing, and just general use. They have held up well for years. They are very warm and have great waterproofing. I've been in several downpours in them.

For deer I use Scentlok. Their Fortress bibs are extremely warm and waterproof/windproof.
I remember listening before a duck hunt around 2002. A guy from Missouri called in and warned of what was to come. It took a while but it happened.
Get one with a wide throat and a quiet motor. Don't shop by horsepower because there are some 3/4 and 1 horsepower units that are small and extremely loud. I have one and am going to buy something different very soon. It's the weston 33-1301-W. It says it will grind 5 lb a minute but good luck shoving that much through it in that amount of time. It's not so bad if you just plan on running solid chunks through it in one pass. The real misery is if you double grind. You also need ear plugs to run the damn thing. I really wish I bought a more commercial style unit the first go round. This thing is more of a small batch tool for the kitchen and not game processing.

What rock are you living under? Crooked judges rule everything. I personally know a game warden that was forced to let a guy go that he caught red handed using night vision on a crossbow to kill deer in that area. I also know about a judge that would host wood duck roost hunts on his property. He would let the wardens know before hand so they wouldn't show up if the shooting was reported.

I think some people in this thread are forgetting we live in Louisiana.

re: What's my bow worth?

My first bow was an XI impact. Loved that thing. XI also came out with the first parallel limb bow. They failed due to being too far ahead of their time and Mathews figuring out how to brainwash everyone.
I love all the jealousy in deer hunting ?? "I didn't kill it therefore it's fake, poached, or high fence"... It never fails. No body is ever just happy for the guy.

280AI, 7 Rem Mag or 7mm Backcountry if you want a .284 caliber cartridge.

7PRC is just a hornady fanboy cartridge. It doesn't deserve any of its popularity. It doesn't produce the speed it claims. I thought everyone knew that by now.

All that said you better practice at 300 off a backpack or crummy rest before trying to shoot a deer that far. You will be shocked by how much you suck at first.
Just don't use the ones that go in the end of your barrel. There is a chance that it could damage the crown. They are often way off anyway.

Trust me. I don't judge all dog guys by these people. They would bring in a flatbed trailer load and loose them on their 50 acres. They leased the 775 acres of Roy O Martin land next to their property. It gave them a way to run dogs on their lease and not lose it. The dogs would stay on their side for a couple days and they would all end up on us. They would tear up our trash and one even went sleep in someone's bed, lol. They were emaciated by the end of the season. They ended up losing their Roy O property when the land man finally saw for himself what they were doing. They got away with it for many years.

re: Deer shoulder mount

Just depends on how good the taxidermist is. The guy that's good enough for me starts at $650 for shoulder mounts. The really good ones charge over $1,000. It can definitely be seen in their work. My guy had to go up on his price because he was getting too much business.

Asio has a unique fit. I ordered their merino base layers, and am seriously thinking about returning them. I can handle the longish sleeves on the shirt, but the bottoms fit almost like pajama pants. You would have to be one big calf M-fer for them to fit correctly below the knee. A coworker warned me about this before I ordered. I should have listened.

Well, the state values them more than crappie. Go look at the limits.

They are great in a gravy. The small ones are good fried. The meat on the older ones can be "hard" and inedible. The gou pros can tell if they will be good as soon as they catch them. My grandfather would fish them in certain places because of the way they tasted and the chance of catching a blue gou. That was like gold to those old men. It meant an instant supper.

Like someone said, throw them on ice as soon as you catch them.

re: Big Deer killed around Dubach?

A lot of pen deer have white antlers. Something definitely injured that one side while he was in velvet. That's the only thing that says pen deer to me. You would be surprised what is killed along the river that never gets publicized. We used to hunt a place that had a 230" deer on the wall, and part of one side was broken off. They never had it officially scored or entered into any books. A guy killed a 186" out there several years ago and ran to the LA sportsman with it. The land owner got pissed. That piece of shite that charges people with trespassing on Saline lake owns that property now.

Also, the NE LA genetics were downgraded if anything by the imported deer. The literature is available on the LDWF website if anyone feels like digging it up. LA can very easily grow a wild deer like that.

Very true. I got out of a place because of the neighbors dog habits. Nothing like sitting around the fire listening to the dog running deer all night long on our lease. They made zero effort to pick them up. They ran loose the entire season.
