you know that picking up change off of a flat surface is a pain in the @ss, right? imagine having to do this 700 times a day...
I always put change into a person's hand just to make their day a little bit easier...I also tell my server at a restaurant that they don't need to make 2/3 trips to bring me my bill, then walk away, then come back for my credit card, then walk back to swipe my card, etc. etc...
next time you are at a restaurant try doing this, it will make you waiter/waitress elated and they will probably hook you up with some extra lemons in your water!!!

Being rude is being rude. Even if it is Pilot policy to put the change on the counter, it would never be Pilot policy to be rude to a customer. There are too many places to buy gas and snacks for anybody to have to tolerate rudeness.
Go back in and ask her if she was just having a bad day or being a bitch on purpose. If her big attitude continues, maybe the manager can explain to you what their policy is on being rude to customers.
Maybe you would want to have your wife do it since women can be viewed as less aggressive. What kind of haircut does she have?
