Weird experience at a Convenience store in Hammond tonight. Is this racist?

I’d been at North Oaks with my elderly mom for a couple hours. After I left, I stopped at a local gas station for a drink and some chips It came up to four dollars and some change. So I give this black lady( mid 30’s) a five and hold my hand out for the coins. . She slaps the coins on the counter and said “ This is 2019 America we don’t put change in your hand , you can pick it up off the counter “ I was so tired from being at the hospital all day I just grabbed it off and left.... is this a new racist thing now? You can’t hand someone their change

In all honesty, our area gained a large amount of Katrina refugees. They brought their attitude with them. You just had the misfortune of running into one who is not from here. Most of us get along just fine. Most people are nice and smile. Sorry for your your experience.

I would have picked up the change, bought something else, and counted out the money into the counter and let her pick it up.
