Like like he got clawed in the scuffle too. If her kids weren't there it could be BnE but with the kids there are obviously was starting there.

Here's the defense I'd use:
-We were out at the festival drinking and having fun.
-She got drunk and belligerent, so I said we had to leave.
-She refused to go and got violent. I left her there.
-I get home, check on the kids, and go to bed.
-She shows up to my home, banging on the doors, but I wouldn't let her in because I feared for the children's safety.
-She got a crowbar and physically broke down the door, stormed inside, and continued the fight.
I have no idea if evidence could back that up, but I'd try it.
