quote:They weren't unrelated things. Think about the concept of "Greco-Roman."
But Christianity took root in the Roman Empire, not one of the Hellenistic states. Those were long gone.
quote:The Empire and so the early Church was largely Latin speaking in the West and Greek speaking in the East.
Also, Jesus spoke Aramaic, not Greek.

He may have been a military savant for all I know, but he might have been born on third base too.
He was absolutely born on third base and came home to score. But in his next at bat he hit a grand slam

He was a Roman, but was the Apostle of the Gentiles that spread the Gospel (in Greek) to Greeks and wrote many books of the Bible (in Greek).
His home church was in Antioch (a hellenized Jewish city in Syria)

St. Paul's letters were in Greek, people from communities through out the area could read them to the masses

Not sure about that. Khan spread his empire against a weakened China, vast empty spaces in Siberia, and finally a weak and still developing Russia. The Golden Horde accomplished some impressive stuff, but you still have to judge them against their compettion.
Alexander was handed the keys to a Ferrari by his father, who had built the world's greatest army (for the time). He fought and beat one major enemy, the Persians. His empire fell to pieces when he died.
Genghis Khan started out with a dead father and outcast from his tribe, was taken prisoner. He also expanded his empire with conquests both to the West and to the South, conquering several different states and empires. His empire continued to expand after he died.
There's an argument for Alexander as greatest military commander but if you want one guy to build you an empire (the world's biggest ever land empire) from nothing it's definitely Genghis Khan.

He was the greatest Nepo baby in history. His dad did the leg work of building the roster and then he coached/played for that roster to a championship run.

quote:the eastern Roman Empire spoke Greek and even the aristocracy in rome saw Greek as the language of intellectuals and were all taught Greek from a young age. Because Greece was what the Romans always wanted to emulate, the philosophy, science, culture, all had heavy Greek influence.
But the gospels were written and preached in Greek

quote:Because the generals who built it were still alive and fighting the endless campaign. When Subutai died, the expansion stopped and the decline began.
His empire continued to expand after he died.
quote:Massive oversimplification, and again, Alexander's tactics and strategies are still taught at West Point and elsewhere.
He fought and beat one major enemy, the Persians.
Buncha YouTube historians in this thread.
