What is a viable path for teachers to get a raise
Take it from their retirement - they can have it now, or have it later. But you can't have it both ways.
If a teacher retires after 25 years, they are either side of 50 years old. From then until they die, they get a guaranteed paycheck, regardless of market conditions, and they get health insurance for pennies.
If they want more now, then they need to give up something later- that's the path that makes the most sense, but I guarantee that will never happen

We can agree there is waste in the system and that the results that we want aren’t happening, but these 3 points aren’t correct. You don’t need to be hyperbolic to actually discuss and issue.

Just being in room with some other those hellians for 7hrs per day deserves a raise.

For the majority, yes it is correct...especially public

because teachers are motivated by non-financial factors to do what they do
yeah, like getting two or three months off in the middle of the year? two to three weeks at Christmas? Spring break, mardi gras and never having to work for a month strait ever? There isn't one month in the school year where everyone is expected to report to the school for a full four weeks. That aint building any sympathy from the people taxed (pun intended) with paying for these educational systems. Private industry isn't immune to wage freezes. Dont ask me to fund someone else's when I'm already paying for more shite than I'll ever use, visit, or see a return on.
The taxpayer has had enough. We simply cannot (and will not) pay for it anymore.

Don’t they also have a similar ranking in results? Seems fair

Actually higher, especially when normalized for demographics.

looks like avg sal is 56k and 42nd in the country, surprisingly higher than Arizona and Florida. For 9 months and numerous other days off W/ probably great benefits it doesn't sound like a bad gig.

Give the pay raises based on performance of the teacher....and the $ for the raise will come from the pay reduction to the teachers who perform shitty.
Posted on 5/18/26 at 1:52 pm to toosleaux
At some point, the school boards need to gut bloated administrative salaries and give raises to the teachers that they promised, or shits gonna get real. I'm here for the shite getting real. I do love to see comeuppance.

many teachers didn't come to work that week
They should have been fired for unapproved absences and that would also free up the funds for raises for the remaining teachers.

Get rid of all the fluff positions within public schools and use that money. Go back to a principal and vice principal.
When I was in high school, we had 2 vice principals. And one of them was also the basketball coach and taught a couple of PE classes.

This wins for the most "boomer" comment of the day lol.

Maybe the money you and I spent on tariffs could have gone to teachers. Oh well. Presidential elections have consequences!

My wife is a teacher in LP.
Her W-2 last year was $46,000 without the stipends.
Amendment 3 was a chance to permanently give them the stipends without raising taxes.
The people of Louisiana are just stupid. They vote against anything they don't understand (taxes, amendments, etc). Guess what happens when investors (tax payers) don't invest in companies (government)?

Sure did. They try to turn kids into gay communists and they want a raise?

If you're old enough to remember, the casino money was supposed to be dedicated to roads and teachers. We have the worst of both. Stop taxing the working class. People are fed up.
