A volunteer for an Arizona group seeking to prevent migrant deaths in the desert at the U.S.-Mexico border was arrested after giving food and water to undocumented immigrants, according to court records.

Scott Daniel Warren, an instructor with Arizona State University and volunteer with the group No More Deaths, faces the federal charge of harboring or concealing two people in the country illegally, according to court documents.

quote:

Warren was arrested on Jan. 17 after allegedly giving two undocumented immigrants “food, water, beds, and clean clothes” in Ajo, Arizona, according to a criminal complaint.

quote:

The undocumented men said they researched the best methods for crossing the border and had received the address of “the Barn” as a place they could receive food and water, according to the complaint.

“After finding their way to ‘the Barn,’ Warren met them outside and gave them food and water for approximately three days,” according to the complaint.

quote:

Carlos Diaz, Southwest Branch Chief for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said Tuesday evening that Warren's arrest was a "legal law enforcement action" and it was "done properly." He added that while the courts will now decide the outcome, "this was done as part of our responsibility to protect the border."

quote:

Diaz denied that Warren was targeted.

"This was not a targeted action, this arrest happened in the process of enforcing immigration laws of the United States," he said.

He was complicit. Arrest that man. Maybe the illegals and/or their family members can help him post bail and pay for his attorney and court fees.

Meh, as much as I am against illegal immigration, I really don't feel good about someone being attested for helping someone else not starve to death.

I would give hitler food and water if he was hungry/thirsty. this is some B.S.

was he supposed to let them starve or die of thirst?

edit: hitler may have been a bad example. still, i wouldn't let somebody starve.

They weren't starving to death. Quit being emotional.

I don't either. But these illegals entered our country illegally and were not prepared to withstand the harsh Arizona climate and environment on their own.

I'm failing to see where he helped them cross the border.

Maybe they should, you know, prevent them from crossing in the first place?

Maybe Schumer and his buddies can send some $$$ the guy's way.

Since they love illegals and all.

And, it is a criminal office to assist/harbor illegals - regardless of your motivations.

If they didn't want to risk starving to death, they should have tried coming into the country legally, or stayed the frick in Mexico.

I have zero sympathy.

"Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?"

-Isaiah 58:7

I'm no fan of illegal immigration, but I don't believe desperate people should be left to die in the desert if I can do something to stop it.

Or they could have brought some damn food and water with them.

A lot of those idiots try to cross the border, illegally, with nothing. How stupid can one be?

He's being arrested for starting a safehouse. Read the quote about them researching the place before crossing. If anything he is doing more harm than good by encouraging people who might not otherwise take this route and be unprepared. He didn't just run into some random illegals and give them food and water, he's more or less a coyote.

Is he though? It sounded like he wasn't helping them cross. Just helping them not die.

You could say he's helping them not get caught by not calling and reporting them.

They should do a better job of preventing them from crossing. You know, actually securing the border. Going after this guy isn't going to fix shite.

He didn’t help out people in a bad place.

He knowingly and publically set up on a coyote route continuously enough that it was highlighted as a preferred route for the amenities provided in what was otherwise probably a harsh stretch.

Because they know they'll get everything once they arrive. Why would they risk themselves otherwise?
