Going to the vet is like going to the dermatologist. They are always going to find something that “needs” to be addressed. Yall need new vets. Mine would never suggest something unnecessary
If you know the vet personally, they’ve got you already. You’re a mark.

Do you how stupid you sound putting a dog on a pedestal.
Show me where I did that.

While the world lives on an average $33/day wage, we are debating should we drop $1000 to clean a dog's teeth.
Not a single person has argued in support of the cost listed in the op.
What else are you going to lie about to try to hide your stupidity? Humans survived for thousands of years without a/c too. You gonna laugh at people that choose to spend money on that?

Post the qoute. I don’t believe there is a vet that qoutes $1200 for a dental. If yours did you need a new vet. Should be $ 400-500 and that’s with extractions.

Has anyone tried that green powder theyve been pushing in tv ads lately?

I paid $600 for teeth cleaning, bloodwork, and sedation a few months ago. You’re getting scammed.

And for whatever reason, the smaller the breed the more common it is.
That’s mainly because people feed small dogs wet food at a higher clip. Wet food is terrible for dog teeth and causes a ton of plaque.

Hell the dentist wants 1300 to clean mine

Dogs have lived for thousands of years without cleaning their teeth. What a scam

True story, I grew up in a house without AC and survived. Open windows and fans.
Only 35-40% of the global population have AC in their home.
Back to the point though - You do not need to brush a dogs teeth. They have evolved and survived forever without teeth brushing. Now linking that to the evolution of humans, is pretty fricking stupid on your part. The evolution difference between humans and canines is just slightly not the same
When dogs develop opposable thumbs, develop language, and can pick up their own poop; we can revisit the need for them to brush their teeth.

Friend of mine paid for it and her dog fricking coded on the table. Unless they have actual dental issues, don’t worry about it.

Thank you for proving my point that humans don’t need a/c to survive. Now, are you gonna answer the question about laughing at people that choose to have it? Do you have it now?
Why don’t you want to talk about your repeated lies about what’s been said in this thread?

Imagine being stupid enough to laugh at other people while trying to link brushing teeth with genetic evolution

Humans started brushing their teeth long after developing these capabilities. What point are you failing at trying to make, exactly?

You want your dog to die at 11 or 16? That $600 that bad deal for 5 years with your best friend?

Farmers's Dog. $191/mo., free shipping (obviously, not really), mine loves the beef and pork, likes the chicken and turns up her nose at the turkey.

Love my vet, but...
Pet life looks different when you realize many people at the vets office work on commission.
At corporate vet chains, up to 30% of a vet compensation package can be commission based.
Much easier to emotion sell on the family pet than it is getting that TruCoat on the family Oldsmobile...

Got my dog groomed at PetCo a few weeks ago. They had a teeth cleaning service I added to it. Not sure if/what they actually did but it was like an extra $15.

Then you need to get to the dental hygienist more often and not let your teeth get to "The bottom step of the seawall" status.

This is a great point. Dogs have been living for thousands of years eating highly processed dry dog food without any issues.
There are archeologists who have dug up ancient bags of Purina in the Pyramids in Giza, and the hieroglyphic ingredient lists also included L-Carnitine, L-Tryptophan, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Avocado, Artificial Turkey Flavor, Maltodextrin, Dried Green Beans, and Beet Powder. They certainly didn't have any issues with dental health...because their bodies evolved to handle this natural diet.
