They will settle, and when they settle with the Bryant estate, the estate lawyers will make sure they settle with the other family who lost people in the crash.

So you're saying the suit won't have an effect on the company? How does the policy work?

I read somewhere the company that owned the helicopter has a $100M master policy. That sounds like a lot until you take into account Kobe Bryant’s net accumulations to the beneficiaries of his estate from the now lost future earrings.

His future earnings would probably likely exceed $500M over his life expectancy. Look how much money that dipshite Magic Johnson made after he retired.

Also the legal concept of respondent superior has been around since the 1600s. The company is responsible for the negligent acts of their agents/employees.

The company is insured. The insurance company pays the suits, up to their limits of policy

SIAP but you have to sue everybody to get discovery, so you can review the facts of the matter. There will be more parties to the suit just to get discovery. In the end, most suits will be dropped and legal team will focus on whoever is most responsible. But to figure that out, you have to sue alot of people to get the information.

The victim here is the pilot. Can you imagine being told to kill yourself or be labeled a racist and lose your job

Maybe Kobe had life insurance that required this so they (life insurance co.) can subrogate from third party

Probably the case. I know a person who got t-boned while driving. His health insurance refused to help him out until the auto insurance of the person who hit him would pay up.

If I recall correctly, the company itself wasn’t certified to have pilots flying IFR, only VFR.

Pilot shouldn’t not have been flying in the conditions flown in given that and the general fogginess in general.

Kobe has the cash yea. Pilot has final say. Pilot fricked up. Company fricked up not being IFR certified.

You know why it was filed.

At the same time, I can see Kobe in the backseat telling the pilot to hurry up and get him there yada yada.

We will never know

At the same time, it’s possible she’s suing on behalf of the other passengers as well who most certainly,y don’t have the clout the Kobe estate has.

If I recall, one family lost both mother and father.

Highly likely any settlement the Bryant estate reaches goes in part to those families as well.

I was massively downvoted when I said the lawsuits from this were going to be nasty.

And here we are.

You better bet if Kobe owned that helicopter his estate will also be facing some massive lawsuits.

widow of Kobe Bryant has sued the owner of the helicopter that crashed in fog and killed her husband and her 13-year-old daughter last month. The wrongful death lawsuit filed by Vanessa Bryant in Los Angeles says the pilot was careless and negligent by flying in cloudy conditions Jan. 26 and should have aborted the flight.

It was your terrible timing, not the Captain Obvious statements that got you downvotes.

This is so dumb, the pilot has a duty for fly safely and within his capabilities based on the aircraft and the weather. Period.

I don't know any of the facts, but asking to find them out and determine if the company may be at fault or has a history of being too aggressive doesn't seem like a terrible idea.

Why are some of you surprised by this lawsuit? Expect more from the other members of the helicopter who died.

And then expect counter suits from the pilot's family, and the helicopter company for something.
