MSB posts suggest it’s a requirement from their insurance provider.

They haven’t explained. Maybe someone here can.

Well I can guarantee the Bryant's insurance company would be looking to offset payments to Bryant by collecting from the helicopter owner, pilot's estate, their insurers, etc so there maybe something to the idea that this helps protect Bryant's insurance claim in some way. Not sure unless you know what the policy says.

Got it...only poor people should be able to sue for negligence.

What does his wealth have to do with whether his family should be compensated due to another’s alleged negligence?

Pilot’s dead too. Gonna go after the money of his surviving family

He worked for a company that owned the helicopter that also has insurance. Not saying I agree with it considering how wealthy she is, but your statement was idiotic. The pilot's family is not being sued and held as liable as far as what the story is indicating.

1) you’re wrong

2) that is EXACTLY what the original title of the thread said before he changed it.

I’ve got no problem with her and any of the families on board going after the OWNER of the helicopter.

What, she doesn't have enough money with what Kobe made during his career and made in investments????

Maybe she got cut out of the will and he left his estate to other parties.

What is crazy stupid in some cases is this situation: man buys large life insurance policy young in life and names wife as beneficiary. He then gets divorced and then remarried. He never changes the beneficiary designation. Years go by, and an unfortunate accident occurs resulting in his death. His ex gets the life insurance and the current wife gets the shaft.

The complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Island Express Helicopters and Island Express Holding Corp. alleges that pilot Ara Zobayan, who also died in the crash in Calabasas, failed “to use ordinary care in piloting the subject aircraft” and was negligent. The lawsuit says the company’s “breach of its duty and negligence” caused injuries and damages and that the death of Bryant was “a direct result of the negligent conduct of Zobayan,” which the company is “vicariously liable in all respects.”

The 27-count complaint, which also names Zobayan’s estate as a defendant, seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

This is kind of absurd on the surface. They are worth tens of millions at minimum and I'm sure he had a fat life insurance policy.

The owners of the helicopter company lost a colleague and I'm sure aren't as wealthy as the Bryants. Do we even know if they have any fault in this?

ETA:

I don't know how insurance would work here I guess. I figured the insurance company would sue, not the Bryants.
