re: Vanessa Bryant files wrongful death suit against helicopter owner

I don't understand the anger here. If the guy was negligent, and it resulted in death, the company should be sued out of existence. As far as him being personally named, I can't imagine that lasts long. It's my understanding and experience that most employees are covered by their employers. Maybe he was a contractor?

You get paid the big bucks to ignore the passengers and do what's safe. Negligence either way.

There is much that could be speculated about this tragedy, including the possibility that Kobe used his star-status and clout (and maybe even some extra cash payable to the pilot) to press for attempting the flight in foggy conditions - especially if the operator was a long-time pilot/operator for Kobe over the years who "aimed to please" Kobe.
It's ultimately up to the pilot to say "no", but not impossible to think that Kobe pressed for them to make an attempt to get there quickly since it was his daughter's game and Kobe was the sponsor for the event. Rash decisions are sometimes made by smart and wealthy individuals that turn out badly -sad and unfortunate for all the victims and their families.

No shite. There was IFR flying conditions and a VFR rated pilot. I hate suits like this but hell, if he'd had been IFR rated the crash wouldn't have happened
Posted on 2/24/20 at 1:35 pm to Lithium
He was IFR rated. The company could only have VFR flights.

Ara Zobayan was licensed to fly using instruments alone, but the operating certificate by the Federal Aviation Administration limited Island Express Helicopters’ pilots to fly only under visual flight rules, or VFR, the New York Times reported, citing three sources familiar with the firm’s operations.

I really might not in this case. Wouldn't the insurance company be the ones suing and not the Bryants?
For instance, in car wrecks, the insurance companies usually sue the driver or the other insurance company for money.

So?
Doesn't matter if Kobe got on his knees and offered the pilot a BJ. The pilot is the only one paid to make decisions when it comes to flying the company helicopter.

Sad all around. We’ll never know what really went down. Whether or not the pilot made a bad error in judgement or if he was pressured by passengers to fly anyway.
What time did kids need to be at game? I don’t know what rules are with cell phones and helicopters, but if ok and considering how low they were flying has there been any evidence of texts or social media posts by any of the passengers showing whether passengers including Kobe were getting frustrated with delays (especially when circling near the zoo waiting for clearance).
I haven’t read anything about passengers being in a big rush, and that just makes pilot booking it in fog while following the curving 101 through higher ground on both sides of road that peaked in places in the cloud cover even harder to understand. Even if pressured pilot has to be safe, but if no added pressure it just seems like an area in those conditions where if you decide to continue you would be going on the slow side to increase reaction time.

Shes has to so she can get ahead of the suits coming against Kobe's estate.
I'm sure he had the copter owned by a different llc, but he'll still be sued

The company files for bankruptcy protection, and never pays a dime.

That's a bad look but very typical

Louisiana has specific classes of people who have standing to bring a suit for wrongful death. It may be that Vanessa and the descendants are the only group who can bring suit. I’d imagine any life insurance company will force them to bring suit and assign any rights or just pay and subrogate back against third-party recovery.
She may have been a trashy dancer who got her sugar daddy, but I’m guessing this suit has more to do with complex estate planning than culcha

Also saw the pilot had a 2015 FAA violation. That’ll be used in the suit.

how much money someone has or does not have shouldn't change anything

I think the negligence is pretty much a given. Probably filed suit to see if there are any excess carriers
