calls from students of color

I very much doubt this. This reeks of white people complaining on their behalf.

Considering what we used to call sling-shots - they must be banned.

So they're gonna spend the money on equipment and labor to move a 70 TON BOULDER because someone might have, one time, sometime in the past called it a “n***erhead...

I guess it doesn't really surprise me anymore, but I am shocked at how benign and ridiculous these reasons for removing or changing these perceived racist allegations keep getting.

So because this rock was called the N word by someone 100 years ago, we must eliminate it?

Are black people cool with where this is going?

Yep, kind of a weird precedent to set in the name of social justice.

I hope this rock is properly disposed of and this racism isn’t simply exported to some other community.

Where are the environmental activists at? Are they willing to stand by while the university administration defiles the natural beauty and habitat for multiple insect species?

Do better, Greenpeace.

My dad was called a n***erhead in high school because of his curly black hair. Sounds like he’s on the clock for cancellation.

They should set up a go fund me from students to put their money where their mouth is. If 70k worth of feelings are earnest about it then move the rock. Otherwise, people don’t really care about it enough.

The 70-ton boulder is officially known as Chamberlin Rock in honor of Thomas Crowder Chamberlin, a geologist and former university president. But the rock was referred to at least once after it was dug out of the hill as a “n***erhead,” a commonly used expression in the 1920s to describe any large dark rock.

wait wait wait... let me get this straight.

so they are going to spend a massive amount of money to move a 14000lb boulder... somewhere else?

all because someone once in the past called it a naughty nickname given to any large dark rock?

I have a niggling feeling they might have more necessary debts to pay.

They could just make a sculpture out of the rock.

Maybe a bust with a very specific type of head.

I've never heard the term before and I'm a lot older than those students.

So...does this mean that anything possibly associated with “that word wypipo can’t say” can be cancelled now?

I mean they cancelled Papa John for quoting someone...they are cancelling rocks...

Maybe we should cancel this someone too

When there aren’t any Confederate statues around, and you want to get in on the removal game, you have to get creative.
