It was nowhere near as bad but it still happened back when I was in school there. It was not uncommon for speakers with different positions to get shouted off stage and not even allowed to speak. Universities should be a place for the open exchange of ideas and understanding, but frick, they're most definitely not that...at least not UW.

It'll get worse moving forward. We have an entire generation of people that will move into adulthood and start occupying positions of authority that think you have the right to go through life without being offended.

Given this, I want to rename the following items moving forward:

Goldfish Crackers: Cheesy fish-shaped crunchy things

Ritz Crackers: Round flaky wafers

Saltine Crackers: Square light-colored soup crunchies

I can hardly walk down the packaged goods aisles at my grocery store without a panic attack. To say it's blatant and jarring racism is an understatement.

It's going to take a few institutions (private, obviously) taking a stand against censorship and cancel culture, and making themselves a destination for people who aren't insane. The silent majority doesn't agree with these things and I think they're getting more willing to speak up. It's a long road ahead, but I'm actually hopeful things will get better.

You hear more and more people recognizing the actual harmfulness of these types of things these days instead of just laughing and going about their day.

Hell, we're just a bunch of slapdicks on a message board, but at least we're having the conversation.

You’d be hard pressed to find a decent sized university that isn’t at least somewhat similar in that regard to UW.

I wish we could just get a list of everything these douchey fricktards (who no one stands up to ever) want to remove and just fricking do it. Then NEVER EVER mention removing something because it hurts muh feelings/makes me uncomfortable etc. ever again. Sick of seeing this stupid shite.

Drops in the bucket compared to all the donations that they'll get from the Gender Studies Majors leading the charge to remove a bigoted boulder

Yep. There’s a very prominent Abe Lincoln statue on campus. Abe is now on the clock.

I feel like this could actually be a teachable moment, but they won't take it. Essentially the lesson is that if you spend every day looking for ways to be offended or a victim, you can twist something in a way that allows you to find it.

It will also cripple your ability to be successful and self sustaining, and will lead to a very miserable existence.

So, it was never named n-head and just someone 100 years ago called it that, therefore it's racist.

All you have to do is call something a name now and it sticks.

What's worse is the University bowed to the 1 or 2 students. They should have just told them to go elsewhere if they have hurt feeling over a damn rock.

Well, it’s settled then. They can put up a bust of Obama.

So if we label things with offensive names people will work to get rid of them? This has potential.

They already marked that the “ok” hand symbol as a white supremacist sign because 4Chan said so

Okay, okay...hear me out guys, maybe we’ve stumbled onto something. Surely we have some Posters of Color here who aren’t all eaten up with the stupid and woke, but like capitalism and money. Maybe find a diverse group of posters, you know, cripples, injuns, poofs...we can put a wig on Owlie and hit a home run in the victim category.

Then we have this group identify the most liberal, gullible, white-guilty but wealthy institutions, find some building or landmark, then make up something vaguely racist about it.

Have the group...needs a good name,
How about
Students
Eliminating
Misogyny
Egalitarianism and
Nazi-racism

So S.E.M.E.N goes to their diversity czar and says “hey mr. Diversity man. There’s a statue of a dog that some people called “******-biter” back in the 30s behind that unused building.

We estimate it will cost...$50,000 dollars to remove and destroy if we go and tell students to feel that a statue that they’ve never noticed is racist...or you can pay us $30,000 and we’ll go on down the road to the next university.”

Thought this was the Bee.

So...because someone referred used a racial slur to describe this rock almost 100 years ago, it has to be removed?

Why are Brazil nuts still available?
Why have Black Eyed Susans not been eradicated?

Yet another example of how the whole woke/BLM movement is not and has never been about actually improving the lives of black people. In a pandemic, we're going to spend up to $75,000 to move a fricking rock.

If it was REALLY about helping black people in a tangible way, someone would say hey, let's take that $75k and put state of the art computer rooms in a couple elementary schools in low income areas of Madison, or we'd put it toward a scholarship or two for people of color from low income areas of the state. We could even put another plaque on the stone about how something that was called a bad name 100 years ago is now enabling the education and advancement of black people.

But nope, we're gonna blow it on something that's beyond fricking stupid and does nothing for anyone. So smart, so brave.
