USMNT’s World Cup $12.8M payout will be shared with women’s team

The U.S. women’s national team won’t play a World Cup match until 2027, but it is still set to receive a major payday from this year’s big tournament.
The U.S. men’s national team earned $16 million from FIFA for reaching the round of 16 before being eliminated by Belgium in a 4-1 loss in Seattle. Under U.S. Soccer’s landmark equal pay collective bargaining agreements, that money will be shared with the women’s national team.
U.S. Soccer keeps 20 percent of the prize money. The remaining 80 percent is split evenly between the men’s and women’s player pools, meaning each team is set to receive $6.4 million from the USMNT’s run. Based on 26-player rosters, that comes out to roughly $246,153 per player.
The women’s share will not be paid immediately.
The USWNT has not yet qualified for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, and the final roster will not be selected until closer to the tournament. Until then, the money owed to the women will sit in an interest-bearing account, with that interest also split between both player pools.
The arrangement exists because of the equal pay fight led by the U.S. women. The USWNT has won four World Cups, while the men have not advanced past the round of 16 since 2002. In 2019, members of the women’s team sued U.S. Soccer, accusing the federation of gender discrimination. A settlement followed in 2022, along with new CBAs for both teams.

Barf
What you are paid actually has nothing to do with success, it was to do with value. Period. Sometimes those two things align, often they don't. Thems the breaks.

Soccer is a communist sport.
I’m not surprised they divide the money between those who earned it and those who are able to have children.

That is absolutely absurd. The USA-Belgium match, despite the loss, was the most-watched U.S. soccer match in television history. A total of 42 million people watched it live as it happened, rivaling NFL playoff ratings.
Why should the women get a share in any of that shite?

It still pisses me off more than it should that the cucks at us soccer basically gave in to public pressure even though the women had no legal standing.

Obligatory reminder about the time the women’s team lost to a team of boys that couldn’t even drive a car yet.
Dallas under-15 boys squad beat the U.S. Women's National Team in a scrimmage
Those ladies deserve their pay

No, no. It should. It's asinine and gives this argument more credence. And it will never go away. Think of the narrative if they tried to change it.

Meanwhile the USMNT got $27k from the share of the last women's teams performance. The good news though, that tournament was the first women's world cup to have revenue break even with the player pool. The host country and FIFA lost money, but the player pool was covered without adding to the loss. Meanwhile the 2026 World Cup was profitable before the end of the Group stage.

Blame the men. They voted for it.

Probably feared the consequences of not voting for it. IIRC, this was done at the height of “cancel culture.”

Pretty good payday for 3.5 weeks of work no matter how you slice it. 681K if they don't share....363K if they do.
Guys like McKennie, Tillman Cardoso and Pulisic are making upwards of 4.5 million a year playing in Europe.....Pulisic also has multi million dollar endorsement deals. I suspect they ain't complaining....especially after their performance onthe pitch Monday night

So they were taxed half for other people to sit at home?
It doesn't matter if it was "pretty good pay day." It wasn't what they should have earned and that other portion was unfairly bullied away from them.

Irrelevant

Also irrelevant.

At least the women don't choke under the spotlight. They at least win gold medals and World Cups. Men are just getting participation trophies out of all of this.

Why are you bitching, it's not like someone is taking money out your pocket. Plus the men agreed to it.
