They weren't paying the winning team $5 million twenty years ago.

If the women finish third, they are splitting 5.8 million, $112k per person.
Thats wrong. The third place team in 2023 made $6.75 million. Since then, FIFA announced they planned to have equal prize pools for men and womens world cup in 2027.
The prize pool in 2023 was 110 million. If they even give half of what the mens world cup was, that number increases to $440 million next year.

So, don't pay your coaching staff and admin?
I'm giving you the player money that was pooled.
Stop being a fricking moron.

Under the current setup, U.S. Soccer retains a 20% portion of the overall payout, leaving 80% to be divided among the players. This fund is split perfectly between the 26 men from this summer’s roster and the 26 women who will represent the nation at the 2027 Women’s World Cup, pending qualification.

The prize pool for 2027 hasnt been announced yet. FIFA president said it would match the mens. It will have a significant leap just so he doesnt completely back down from his word.

Gid damn man.

In 2023, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the goal of having equal prize money for the 2026 Men's World Cup and the 2027 Women's World Cup.
However, when FIFA officially approved the 2026 Men's World Cup financial package, it set a record $655 million performance-based prize pool (plus qualification and preparation payments), bringing the total financial distribution to $871 million.
FIFA has not yet announced a matching prize pool for the 2027 Women's World Cup. So despite the earlier ambition, there is not currently a confirmed commitment that the women's tournament will receive the same total prize money.
If they want to do it, then do it. But let's not pretend it is being done under fairness.

Their goal is to match. That would mean the womens pool will grow significantly. The mens is $879 million. I dont think they will match that, but they will throw in extra so that they dont look completely ridiculous.
Even if the womens only goes to $300 million that would triple last womens world cup where the winning team got $270k per player. If the women were to win the men would recieve half of 810k per player and come out way ahead based off the split.
This is why the men arent crying about it like some on this board. If the women finish in the final 4 the men will probably win financially on the split

If Balogun had gotten a goal against Belgium, he could write his ticket and get a top payday. He's already moved his stock up. WC was good for Balogun and Tillman. Tillman about to get a substantial bump from his club.

OK but USSF doesn't have their hand in your pocket so wtf you care.
Here's a great reason, I'm a fan of the team (run by USSF) and seeing them piss away funding on dumb shite like this instead of spending it wisely makes it really really hard to continue being a fan. Because I know we'll continue to get lapped by well-run organizations.
I want to give neither dollars nor attention to stupid organizations.
