So your argument is that the only way the men will get an equal share from the women is if FIFA comes out of their own reserves to pay players because the women don't generate enough revenue. Is that what I'm gathering from what you're saying?

You don't see any issue with that from a fairness or "equality" standpoint?

No. I think FIFA should pay out more money anyway. They get those cash reserves from corruption and selling world cups to Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Should I be mad about them giving some of it to the players?

The womens world cup generated 500% more revenue in 2023 compared to 2019 and they are planning on it at least doubling for 2027. They consider it an investment in the future. In 40 years they'll be generating 10s of billions off womens world cups

Well the women certainly aren’t complaining about the deal and if the men did, they would be cancelled.

I'm not sure the men really give a rat's arse about it in reality. They made good money on top of their already good salaries they make playing overseas and domestically.

Also guys like Balogun and Tillman will likely see big increases on top of their current salaries based off how they performed. Ive already seen Balogun linked to 2 transfers

Even if they end up making more due to the split because the girls finish in the top 3 next year?

So you think FIFA, out of the goodness of its heart, will pay more to the women so they can split it with the men, and that money will come from their "corrupt slush fund money"?

Tens of billions?

If that ever happens, feel free to bump this thread and make fun of me.

The men would play for free. It's not how they make their living, so of course they aren't going to make a big stink about it and get shite on in the media. That doesn't make it right. It set a horrible precedent for future lawsuits like this.

Honestly, I'd be ok with the end result had it been done differently. Sort of the same concept as how Football money pays for everything else in the NCAA. But it wasn't done right. They cherry picked numbers from a cycle where the men missed the world cup.

On top of all that it's tiresome to hear about how it's somehow fair because the women win more. Female athletes in this country have had the jump on the rest of the world since 1972 ( a good thing btw). However, every time Carli Lloyd stepped on that field she was on the team with superior talent because of all those advantages. I really don't need to hear them criticizing the men who are taking on the exact opposite challenge.

No. FIFA has publicly stated their goal was to have equal prize pools for the 2026 and 2027 world cups. It has nothing to do with splitting it with the men. Thats a US soccer federation thing.

I wouldve thought the same as you about people playing "professional" video games 10 years ago.

The womens world cup went from 100 million revenue to an estimated billion from 2019 to 2027. It could absolutely go to tens of billions in the next 40 years. Look at the growth of the womens leagues overseas in just the past 5 years.

~$6.3 billion generated by 2022 Mens WC

~$570 million generated by 2023 Womens WC which first to ever break even and not lose money.

The women, though bring home the hardware in soccer.

That's irrelevant to the discussion of how much of the revenue the groups should share (absent mutual agreement) That's akin to arguing that the players on the Louisville Kings (UFL champs) should earn the same (or nearly the same) as the players on the Cleveland Browns because the Kings players brought home the hardware while the Browns never do. The revenue generated by the two business is massively different. That's why the Browns players are paid significantly more, even if they never compete for championships.

The total prize pool for the 2023 Women's WC was $110M
The total prize pool for the 2026 Men's WC is $870M+

That's nearly 8x more. That's not because FIFA is "sexist". It's because the men's tournament generates (at least) 8x the amount of revenue than the women's WC.

Using the last two WCs as a benchmark, the USWNT lost in the round of 16. Their team allocation for that result was ~$1.9M. This year, the USMNT lost in the same round. Their allocation is $16M. But even if the women would have won the 2023 WC their prize money ($10.5M) would have still been $6M LESS than the prize money the men earned by making the round of 16. In fact, all of the mens teams who didn't make the round of 32 still got $9M...which is just slightly less than what the 2023 women's champion earned. Thus, even the argument that "the women bring home the hardware" is flawed because "bringing home the hardware" would still earn them less than the men would earn by simply advancing out of the group stage.

The men's and women's team agreed to the revenue split. So you can't really say the payouts are "unfair". But from a pure market standpoint there is ZERO logic supporting the argument that the women should earn the same amount as the men.

College football actually subsidizes the NFL with talent for free.

Communist sports.

Funny thing is in the communist countries; the women didn't have teams. That's why we are so far ahead in women's soccer than other soccer countries.

The way this makes so many people mad, you would think this money was coming directly out of their own paychecks.

its funny you think the womens world cup's revenue trajectory is anywhere near linear.

The men are splitting $12.8 million with the women, $246k per person assuming 26-person roster.

If the women finish third, they are splitting $5.8 million, $112k per person.

So that means the men lose $134k each.

And not all of our players are Balogun or will ever make that kind of money at club level.
