Charleston is the best on the list but if you’re from north of the mason/dixon, please don’t.

But, thats just it. I had an aunt, and cousins that live in Sun Valley now, and Palm Desert during the Winter.

Half of Sun Valley is owned by West Coast dough, be it LA, SF, Sea, Port, Phoe. The Boise, and Hailey's Friedman Airport handle private jets. Alaska Air outta Seattle, plus Delta and United from SLC, LA, SF, Chi.

Many out West have the pockets to fly, and many others are used to long roadies via auto.

Wanting wide open spaces comes with a small cost.

Spokane isn't as great as people seem to think. It's very different from the coastal areas of the PNW.

In some ways it’s better. Much less rain, much more sunshine.

It doesn’t have the ocean close by so it’s tough for me to leave.

Within a short distance of Spokane there’s hiking, water sports, sand dunes for riding, fishing, snow skiing, snow machining, ice fishing, and excellent hunting.

It’s several hours from Seattle, Montana, Oregon, and Wyoming.

It's really just the Aberdeen/Grays Harbor area. And the collapse of the logging industry is what decimated that area. The drugs followed.

Yep, there’s a serious lack of jobs in the area and some folk just stay because of family instead of trying to better their situation.

All in all it’s cleaned up a lot from what I’ve heard. I live in the Aberdeen hood and I have had no issues.

Whoooole lotta people in this thread aren’t really familiar with Spokane Its nickname is Spokompton btw

It’s currently being gentrified. Lots of opportunity to make money in real estate. I also think that nickname is a bit dramatic. I’ve also lived in real shite hole areas in Louisiana soooooo.

Granted I didn't spend a whole lot of time in Spokane, but I didn't think the city itself was that bad. A little gritty, but that never bothered me.

It just seemed so isolated and a long way from any other civilization.

I might choose Spokane. I'd bet it's beautiful there and it's on the dry side of the mountains. Plus, Mike Leach is just down the road in Pullman.

Charleston.
Shreveport is blah
Dover seems blah
Spokane seems off the grid and remote.

Like any decent sized city there are areas around downtown that are rough. However, as opposed to Seattle, that population/environment is not creeping outward into the nicer areas. It's really the opposite as far as downtown is concerned.

I mean if you have a decent job you are living on the south hill, or up off of nine mile, or in the mead/mt spokane area, or in the valley, maybe all the way out to liberty lake...

I don't know anything about Charleston but as someone who grew up in WA and lived in Spokane for a bit, it is my favorite part of the state. Outdoor activities and scenery that are very "PNW" with the eastern washington weather (4 seasons, dry, couple hundred days of sunshine).

Spokane. Washington is a great place to live outside of King County.

Charleston, but I grew up there.

Dover is more in the middle of the farming country than people think. It is a PITA to drive to Dc or Baltimore or even Wilmington/Philly.

Spokane isn't anything like people think of the PNW being, it is on the far Eastern side of Washington and again not really close to anything.

Shreveport... well its Shreveport.

Spokane is like living in Kansas. Whole lotta nothing. It is not PNW like Seattle and Portland.

Dover is the answer. 1.5 to Philly. 2 hours to DC. 2.5 hours to NYC.
