I appreciate what it is and definitely is a classic, but I disagree that it’s the greatest ever told.

Ironic because there are like two female characters in the entire LOTR universe. It is a fricking sausage fest -- ESPECIALLY in the books (the movies added a few more women, thank god).

ETA: It was PUBLISHED in 1978. He started writing it earlier than that. M-O-O-N, that spells "man, that book was written a long time ago.

The chatacter would have been 14. ETA: The Harry Potter series is one of the most commercially successful books ever. It can’t be a terrible book if so many people like it. I think it’s become so successful because the series grows up with the reader.
