-"Tony is as close as the generation will have to a John Madden in the booth" -
To each his own... ..kinda like I think Collingsworth, by far, gives the best insight into the game than any of the others but when it comes to John Madden, and what he brought to Television's broadcasting of football... .. I can't even think of a hint of why Tomy Romo would ever come up in the topic.
For me, Romo "in the booth", at best, just becomes incidental drivel, so unnoticable and insignificant that I don't think I would be able to say if he was or wasn't there.. if someone happened to ask. I don't tune him out on purpose, just haven't heard anything that registers... I had a mother-in-law that I'd somehow isolate and mute, just her alone, without even trying. Noticing Romo would be like asking me if the fridge compressor kicked on during the game or not.

Belichick Knew Better
Posted by MiDixon Yermouth on 1/16/22 at 6:52 pm
Belechick's story that he let Garappolo go because he didn't want to see a starting caliber QB sitting on the bench was one of convenience. He knew better. Win or lose today, and it's looking like SF will the wild card round in Dallas, it's clear Garoppolo is, and will never be, a top tier, "winner"quarterback. 49'ers won in spite of this moron.
There, I feel better. I can't imagine seeing a player like Burrow ever failing his team in the clutch as pitifully as Garapollo's showing today. Go Bengals.

If it's just between these two players and not a team thing, I don't see how it would be. This is the players basically making a friendly wager amongst themselves, so while I know Saints fans want to complain, this is not the same thing as a big system the Saints defenders had in place as a large group and with the DC involved.

I'm not attorney but I've been part of over 100 events of litigation and I do know that wording is what makes the difference between "perfectly ok - legal", and "wrong -illegal".
The NFL Constitution and By-Laws gets a little tedious to read but it seems there is quite a difference in what is defined as constituting the Saints' bounty violation, payments offered to players by a team not covered in the salary cap, individual players wagering on games / betting / gambling laws, and two players on the same team with a mutual wager based on a personal performance competition. I can't find anything that could even suggest this is a violation.
I personally see a huge difference between team bounties and a personal competition, then what is moat important, what a judgment is ultimately ruled on as "the spirit of the law".. .. or the purpose for which that law was written. Rules/laws are seldom arbitrary, there is usually a "tort" or a damaging offense that made it necessary to prevent. Not sure I see one in the making with White / David.
We can say "slippery slope" like the libs w/gun ownership... but still just doesn't make someone a killer. If someone can point out the rule or obvious need for trying this as a violation, I'll listen. Just don't see anything similar... but again, I'm no attorney.

I can't help but ask where can I find posts from this "not long ago" time when one believed the OT was their source of social enlightenment, broadening insight of justice for the less fortunate, and savoir faire?
..or before it went, "right back in the shitter"?
I haven't signed in for a few months but today... ..feeling a little stressed.. I needed to escape where I know I'll find shameless ridicule and ostentatious disparaging of poor, unfortunate, degenerate individuals.. ..either born into society's lowest echelon... ..or whose miserable lives have plummeted to debauchery that'd be scandalous for a seedy trailer park. And here it is... the OT delivers.
I mean, if not for the discourse of the shitter, why else would anyone come here?

Like Baton Rouge in the 1990s, but smaller.
Definitely a LOT smaller but I would say you would've found BR unrecognizable in contrast with what it is like today. Whoever said the vibe was heading towards that of Austin is partially correct. BR had a strong "college town" feel and LSU was the hub of a much larger part of the overall "vibe". I would say the majority here would have considered BR lifestyle as that of a town, not a city.
I remember the day they removed the saw horses blocking the opening of I-10 at College Drive and was one of the first to drive the distance to Prairieville where it once came to an end. Perkins was still gravel past Seigen.. Essen was just being widened from a single lane with virtually no commercial or business property. Not sure what went up first but I remember Ch 33 building, that had just begun broadcast, still surrounded in uncleared land. ...and this finally gave us 3 TV stations. Cable didn't get here until very late 70's and cable was simply a few extra mainstream broadcasts from Chicago, Atlanta, and a couple of early cable based ventures ... so until early 70's we had 2 TV stations only until midnight... nothing until the local morning shows began. IIRC except for bars, BR did not yet have any businesses or stores open past 9 or 10pm. I'd have to think a while about when BR first had 24 hr options. By t mid 70's BR was still essentially motionless on a weekday after midnight. On a weekday night in late 60's, we'd sneak out and ride our bikes to a breakfast diner on Perkins called the Dobbs House. We's ride the center line on Highland, down Lee Dr., then down Perkins without ever seeing a car. First half of the 70's wasn't much different.
Florida Blvd and Airline were the only real thoroughfares in BR with stretches of restaurants, nightclubs, car dealerships, department stores. Most of BR's best restaurants were still on Airline, a few on Florida, maybe 3-4 more spread around elsewhere. Downtown was slowly becoming a ghost town.
To illustrate how different NR was, imagine doing this and being the only ones to do it. Me and four friends rented the entire Abadie Buillding's top floor... in the first block of Third St... right across the street from where Happy's (was?)..one or two doors down from where Stroube's is now. We rented it for seven years from early 70's until about 1978-9 as a place just to hang out, jam, drink, crash, etc. We had the entire top floor of a prime downtown building that spanned 1/2 the block spanning to the back of the buildings (now Tsunami and Captial City Grill) that faced Lafayette St. Our floor had seven large office suites, windows overlooking Third St. below, a long, very wide, L shaped hall, (all with 20' ceilings) that led to a stairway to the rooftop. We had our own private downtown rooftop deck at night with a great view of the river. downtown BR was becoming a ghot town but There were still offices downtown during the day. But, at night we almost had downtown BR to ourselves. I mention this to show how different BR was in the 70's. We never could understand why nobody else did this. It cost the five us a whopping $175 a month, total... $35 each and we got our money's worth times over. Downtown was so abandoned that the agency that rented to us never even bothered to see what we were doing for the entire 7 years... and we did some major re-arranging of rooms, walls, doors, etc... no one cared.
BR had a well defined boundary between North and South "types"... but then, the difference that determined the stereotyped ideas was not racial... but rather, south B.R had the "long hairs, mainstream, and preppy".. .(In 1970, south BR high schools were Lee, U-High, Broadmoor, Catholic, and Baton Rouge High. *Tara opened in early 70's... North BR had what was called the "greasers", Istrouma, Woodlawn, Glen Oaks... which seemed like the tail end of the 50's lifestyle..The Fonz, greased back hairdos, blue collar culture). The 1970 US Census lists the entire population of EBR Parish at 385,000...with 81,000 listed as African American.

Old telephone phone books. Encyclopedias are virtually worthless with everything online. Figure an old set of Britannica or World Book packs somewhere between 10,000 - 20,000 sheets. Your social status will be elevated as well. Not only will you be set for a couple of years, if you read each page before you use it, you'll be able converse on just about anything anyone mentions. You'll be the hit of every dinner party.

frick pit bulls and frick their stupid arse owners for propagating the breed
I don't think you even understand the problem. I've raised dogs almost 50 years. The dog was abused, left w/o water/food for days. My buddy owned the property with the deadbeat tenant. I rescued the dog, brought him here... .. I have other friends who've retired and moved out of the city... two are currently interested in the pup and coming to see her. Both have plenty of acreage.
No innocent dog deserves to suffer. I put down my own animals. Three weeks ago my 15 year old Border Collie, already struggling with arthritis and cataracts, suffered a stroke, now mostly paralyzed, could not walk and was helpless.. I'm not going to turn my back on a dog that's been loyal a decade and a half, pay some vet $350 to do my dirty work. Have you ever watched a dog "put to sleep"?? Well, they don't always "go to sleep" right away and ain't pretty when they don't.
I took the afternoon to spend with him.. .. he loved the dog brush.. .. I brushed him about 20 mins or so, I hand fed him some sliced turkey (his big treat) which he could only eat for a bit, looked him straight in the eye, said my goodbyes, then put a .22 long rifle in his ear. If any titty soy babies are outraged, it's by far the most humane to pit down a suffering animal. When they get to that stage in nature, they are usually maimed and slowly killed by scavengers.
This pitbull was suffering in a kennel full of her own waste and starving. I've said many times here the breed needs to be phased out but there are more humane ways to do this. This girl will live out her life in the country, far away from neighbors. While I don't think all pits should be put down now, they are what they are and can't help it... ..I think it's time for a sanction on further breeding. Hard statistics are there that leave little doubt about the propensity for killing.. the numbers exceed all other breeds combined for humans killed.
quote:
False, there are other breeds that won't delatch as well. No need to lie to prove a point.
WTF are you even talking about?? I didn't say a thing about a "delatch", why they do what they do, nor is there a lie about anything. I simply referred to stats concerning the ratio of human deaths, said other breeds will warn with nips and bites but statistics show pits are the only dog having a documented history with consistency of not stopping until the death of it's victim. Labrador retrievers attack people more than any dog but no other breed has this specific peculiarity. The total number of humans killed by pitbulls is greater than the total all breeds combined. No breed is even close.
And I don't think a pit bull is one specific breed... but several in a category... ..which makes the task of removing them a little more difficult

I've raised dogs my entire life and well aware that any breed will react, attack, bite, etc., if scared, threatened, provoked, or feels the need to defend itself.
Here is the difference between pit bulls and ALL OTHER BREEDS. First, the statistics are clear... ..even though the pit bull breed accounts for only about 5% of all dogs, they account for nearly 70% of all human deaths caused by dogs. That alone should be unacceptable but I believe the breed should be scrutinized much more closely because of this:
While all breeds will bite if provoked or tormented to the point of pain or feeling endangered, other dogs stop their warning bites to their perceived offender once the threat ends. Only the pit bull is prone sustain this attack well past what is necessary to defend itself and will do so until death. Most insurance companies will not insure a residence were there is a pit bull. There is simply a risk of a breed that will murder humans that isn't there with others.
I actually have a 2 year old pit bull I recently rescued and she is the most beautiful, affectionate dog.. the sweetest creature you could imagine. I still shudder to think of what she is capable of and tendencies that lie hidden in her genetics. Regardless of this dog's good qualities, it's time to begin to prohibit the furthering of the breed.

re: To all Doctors out There

I can comment as an eyewitness. Overbooking is real, some legit, some dangerous. Three close friends in private life are doctors. We've had discussions about this very topic.
First, one of them is a internist (internal medicine), the other two are surgeons. I've been told that they do overbook intentionally.. ..other than no-shows/cancellation one reason is to compensate for low reimbursement rates of medical insurance companies. Example is, after performing a highly specialized procedure, unique circumstances that aggravated difficulty (the national average for this surgery is $50,000 up depending on specifics) the insurance company (well known) disallowed charges to the point payout to him was under $200. This guy is a veteran surgeon, for years was one of 19th Judicial's go-to medical experts for State's witness in medical malpractice suits, was on staff in LSU's sports programs, etc. He says not uncommon for doctors to be paid a mere fraction or not to get paid at all when insurance companies deny coverage after the fact. So, at times, some doctors will overbook to compensate here.
I was told overbooking is more common with GP's than specialists but they virtually all overbook. Doctors are also regular people, they get tired of the same things as we do. One of my buddies said when he started practice he was passionate about his work. Sad to say that he grew callous, began to hate his work, despise people in general. I told he should get out but he had his financial goals to finish with. I'd be willing to bet there are quite a few doctors who are that boat, only still working for the money.
I've known all 3 since grade school. My closest friend of the 3 is the opposite. He not only doesn't overbook, but still loves his work, refuses to retire, allows at least 20-30 mins. per appointment, more depending on whether it's to discuss options prior to procedure, a follow-up, exam, etc. This guy knows your kid's names. He is truly the best doctor I've ever seen and has helped me more than all others combined.
He's internal medicine but after seeing 5 kidney specialists for what they diagnosed as complications from kidney stones, I'm hospitalized, critical with acute renal failure.. ..the specialists had thrown up their arms.. told me to get my affairs in order.. I may not see Christmas. I left AMA, went to my buddy, he sat with me over an hour (appointment in office), slowly worked back through my life and medical records... getting to my childhood... ..getting me to search memories, I recalled a time I'd wrecked my dirt bike, bruised gut and winded by the handle bars... recalled I'd pee with a little blood for a couple of days. He immediately ordered an MRI.. (I'd had two prior with specialists) ...after taking time to go through my life history and looking closer, he'd discovered old scar tissue that was severely blocking efficiency... also giving false indication of kidney stones passing.
After seeing FIVE renal specialists, all saw me and my charts, it was an internist physician who changed treatment ordered by renal "specialists". Within 6 weeks my blood tests were normal, felt like a million $, health was flawless.. without exaggeration, this dude literally saved my life by taking extra time the others wouldn't. I would absolutely NOT be alive now, fully active, if not for one doctor who allowed his patients more time than others. And don't think my treatment was any different because of close friendship, all patients get the same.
It's a fact that doctors overbook, I know firsthand and could tell much more. It sucks but there are reasons...some probably legit. There are also great doctors out there, their job and patients come first and they allow enough time to be thorough enough save lives where other doctors failed...there are also those doctors that have lost enthusiasm and only still in it for the money, we get screwed with long waits. But they are people just like us. I'd bet the populace of OT is no different.

why don't you post st. george murders vs NBR so we can see whats really going on.
Good point.. ...and not just St. George but what's really going on is much more than just saying "Baton Rouge" would have most believe.
The areas and neighborhoods that I've known for decades are as safe now as they were in the 60's. If you were to draw a massive boundary around about 15 square miles (a guess, probably more) of what has been a thriving city full of hard working, responsible citizens.. ...for the past 50 years until now you would hardly be able to find enough "fatal shootings" per year to count on one hand.
When I see these stories and the locations, they aren't in places I've even heard of... ..and I've been improving real estate here for decades. If you look at the homicide maps of what is now called "Baton Rouge", other than a few rare exceptions, they are ALL north of Florida Blvd, east of Airline Hwy., and west of N./S. Eugene.
That leaves a huge city to live in, do commerce, conduct business in, and raise families in without ever having to, for any reason, venture into very specific areas with "fatal shootings". I doubt most people in the old south Baton Rouge area have ever seen or heard of these places. Everything else is just a mis-association about the crime stories. I have properties in near equal proportion in both St. George and Baton Rouge. I hope for the best with the new zoning but if I were to put all my eggs in one basket for the long run, I'd bet heavily the safe money will be on the very wide expanse known as old south Baton Rouge. For over 50 years that real estate has continued to appreciate in value and desirability in ratios over and above anything like it anywhere near its perimeter.
It's very near a misnomer to say shootings are in Baton Rouge. Granted, the zoning map indicates this.. ..and if there was any indication shooting took place anywhere but clearly identified, specific zones outside of, and clearly away from the thriving community most here consider Baton Rouge, I may think it could be unsafe. No one has to point out the wisdom of a new public school district thanks to Judge Parker's shortsightedness. But for now, this is clearly a tale of two very different and separate cities sharing the same name.

No, they wouldn't tolerate it and they mock our leaders' lack of courage to stand up to this with swift retribution. If any group is brazen enough organize attacks against the businesses and welfare of private citizens of The United States of America in a fashion that reduces our cities to burning rubble... ..I think it's high time they learn the freedom to peacefully protest here is a right that was paid for with blood and lives of those who died protecting it... ..and anyone who thinks they are big and bad enough to wage these attacks better be big and bad enough to face the hell-fire and other lines of defense we've built to keep this country safe and free from these types of attacks.
Simply put, these ignorant, sniveling, cowards think they want to full on attack and burn our nation's cities? OK... let's go ahead, clear the women, children, and innocent civilians out, then let them face our nations's defense....full on!
