stupid to blame the airline for that.
what about airports?

My oldest has been stranded a few times because flights to BR were cancelled - luckily she was able to fly into NOLA (although this only happened with United)

My older boys were going to fly to meet us on vacation, but the flight out of BR was cancelled.

Different airlines, same airport

Flying any airline has just become an unpleasant experience, generally.

It isn't all the airlines' fault, but we have allowed them to write legislation that 100% favors them in virtually any customer service scenario.

Less competition in this space will only make things worse for the consumer.

From a pure business sense, of course the merger makes sense.

From the consumers' standpoint, "Good luck".

All of the deplaning issues are solved when you have a plane full of people that believe in common courtesy.

I wouldn't blame AA for a cancelled flight necessarily, I would blame their miserable arse personnel for being unhelpful and unsympathetic about it, though, especially if you have status and got lukewarm treatment.

Then it might be a status thing because I’ve only once had a negative interaction and it was over wanting to cancel a trip because of a storm.

If I actually want to fly they’ll move heaven and earth for you. Even in cases where it was 100% my fault and they “should” have charged me a substantial change fee.

The closest I’ve ever gotten to being stonewalled was when I was trying to get out of town before a hurricane (my trip ended the day it would be hitting), and after my first counter plea to the rejection the supervisor who was overhearing it stepped by and told her “book him.” Poof, done.

They’d even do things like let me keep by original ticket but print me a standby ticket for a different flight.

As shitty as airlines are nowadays.
This will make it worse.
Lack of competition creates shite.

And with a few international exceptions they are correct.

With low cost carriers it isn't even a question. They are made from shite.

If you have status on any airline you're going to have better experiences than the general public, obviously.

I think the better tests are status to status, non-to-non, or the experiences of hub residents compared (like my Dallas to Atlanta comment).

I think most of the third party publications would agree, although they'd have Delta pretty clearly out front and 2/3 huddled together. Among business travelers I think that holds up relatively the same.

My thing is though: all I had was the lowest conditioned tier of their FF program. It wasn’t like I was a big roller…..I didn’t even have access to the lounge.

How would this be any different then the JetBlue Spirit merger that the DOJ and courts shot down a couple years ago citing antitrust ?

DOJ has to sue to stop the merger.

Republican controlled DOJ in theory is more business friendly and less likely to sue than the Biden DOJ.

But yeah, if spirit and jet blue was shot down, no way this should go through

Did it have the rooftop pool?

no. It had an indoor water park that burned your eyes when you walked into the park area. But when you looked around at your fellow bathing participants, you appreciated the high level of chlorine.

I fly American exclusively and never had a problem.
Not exclusively but AA has carried me more than any other single carrier.

I, like you, always put up for them saying they’d never “got” me. (Weather-issues not included)

Until a couple of weeks ago, they got me. And good.

Twice in three days.

Be prepared. Their cost of fuel today makes them do extreme things.

O'Hare would easily surpass KATL as busiest airport if that happened.

Maybe. But would bet the new hypothetical airline would have to give away some slots at Ohare

I used to fly United exclusively but their status program has gotten stingier and stingier. Have for the most part switched to AA/AS this year (both are on Oneworld) so this would wreck my shite.
