United Airlines Agent Cancels Man's Ticket at MSY for Filming Her

Navang Oza, 37, posted an unedited clip of lengthy interaction with a ticket counter worker in New Orleans. “Stop! Stop! Put it down now,” the agent says in the video. The 4 a.m. confrontation occurred in New Orleans when Oza was checking in for his flight home to San Francisco. Oza says he was told it would cost $300 to check the same bulky bag that cost $125 on the way there.
"In trying to get an answer, the lady was being rude," he said. So, he started recording.
The clip begins with her pointing her finger at him. “You did not have my permission to videotape,” the agent says.
Next, she appears to instruct an agent to her left. “Cancel the reservation,” she says.
“I want to know why,” Oza asks.
“Because you did not have my permission,” she said.
Oza said he was shocked.
"I was shocked because I didn't know she had the right to cancel my flight because I started recording," he said.
About a minute after ordering his trip canceled for taping her, the United agent is seen recording Oza.
“I’ll do the same thing,” she said, pointing her smartphone at Oza’s.

Cop eventually shows up and says he has every right to film her because this occured in the check-in area which is a public setting, not private like on a flight. Guy is a bit douchey and probably still a little drunk, but that wasn't the excuse the lady made for cancelling his ticket. Fly the friendly skies

We, as a country, are doomed

I don't blame her. Entitled fricks.
What is everyone's obsession with filming someone to get their way? It is a bitch move.

Meh, I have never had a good experience on United. Pretentious, overpriced, and a generally miserable flying experience.
Hopefully the downward trend continues.

What is it with everyone's obsession in thinking that they have to give their permission to be filmed in a public place?

Just grab the phone and throw it as hard as you can on the ground.

Flying United out of MSY in 3 weeks. Will probably be drunk. Don't even care

To be fair some states are two party states that require both party's permissions to be filmed.
AFAIK LA is not one of those states.

He probably loaded it up with souvenirs and is ignoring the weight of the bag compared to when he got here.

I don't exactly know how I feel about this rising mob mentality, copy cat if you will, of altercations with airlines. On one hand, with over 100,000 flights per day and considering the hyper-regulated nature of air travel, no crap there are going to be examples of poor customer service every once and a while. On the other, as a consumer, it'll hopefully force airlines' hands to stop treating customers like cattle considering they've paid a good amount of coin to cram themselves up in a metal tube.

I mean, on a personal level, most people would feel extremely uncomfortable being filmed by a stranger for the internet. I wouldn't have canceled the guy's flight in order to not misrepresent my employer/company, but I would have probably asked someone else (or a supervisor) to take over and removed myself from the situation entirely.

This is what probably should have been done, however at 4am on a Saturday there are probably not many employees to start (my guess is 2-4), with the rest coming in at 4:30 or 5am.
The agent did not know the rules for filming. For united, it is illegal to film employees on planes. However, this filming was done in the check-in area, which the city of new orleans owns so it is a public area. Doesn't make the filming right, but he had every right to do so

I agree with this entirely. She could have handed off to a manager, she could explain why the charge was more, she could charge him, and explain that he can fight the charge later. Or, she could tell him pay, or leave the bag behind. Any of the above, and I would not comment. But the whole, "you need my permission," bullshite is dumb.

I know it is legal. So is ripping arse in church. It is just trashy as shite for your move to be recording someone.
Just get all the facts and go through the proper channels. Now my tax dollars had to get involved because some jackals decided to bring home a few hand grenade glasses and Mardi Gras beads.

Then I'd walk off my job post into a break area until he was gone or someone else became available to help him
With the exception of police who are public servants with weapons, nobody should have to be forced to be filmed for the internet just because they work in a public place.
A gate agent is just some random person who shows up to work and only makes $10-$11/hour to deal with shitheads all day. She chose the wrong method of dealing with this dude, but people sure do seem to look at airline staff as if they're not human or something. Of course this person freaked out. They're being filmed without their consent for the internet, even if it is legal. Hell, I'd probably decide the job wasn't worth it and go home. Plenty of $10/hour jobs out there.

So...a doctor is roughed up for not leaving his seat on a United plane, and now we have a weekly thread on shite that goes down at airports or on the planes themselves.
Sometimes I don't know how I've made it as far as I have in this world. I guess I haven't lived if I haven't been booted from a flight or detained by security guards.
