A smart homeless person doesn't never have to be cold. They are places to be to stay warm, someone mentioned a convenience store.

Others are :

1. hideout at the Mall
2.Fire station
3. Library
4.Emergency room at the hospital
5.Bus station
6.Train station
7.museum
8.coffee shop
9.bookstore
10.local DMV

and I am sure other TD'ers can think of other locations.

Well Ann, if he was such a good friend, why didn’t YOU take him in??

She's a NIMBY frick. Every single time someone berates me for something, I ask why they aren't doing anything now. It shuts them up.

It looks like she and others did try to help him. She posted the below under a news story about the deceased.

quote:

Carl was not associated with CLASS. I work there and that is where the interview took place. Carl did not have HIV. He was my friend and along with other friends and the Homeless Coalition, he was housed several times. It always brought me a great sense of relief, but it didn’t bring Carl the same peace and he returned to the streets. As his friends, we did the best we could do to make sure he had what he needed, but we could not force him to live under a roof. Most of the time this life worked for Carl and it was his choice to make….and as a reasonable, intelligent man, I’d like to think that Carl would have accepted temporary shelter from these extremely cold temperatures if it had been available to him and he felt safe. Unfortunately, those of us who were looking for him could not find his location on the streets in the days before his death. He had been displaced from his usual spots.

Based on the above, he may not have taken advantage for a warming shelter or other shelter. Seems he didn't care for being housed.

Does the author Melinda Martinez open every article with a woke statement like the one below?
quote:

As a straight, white woman, Ann Lowrey is aware of privilege when it comes to her education and skin color.

You know where it's warm this time of the year?
Mexico.
Go find one of those shitty trucks pulling 3 other cars on the interstate and hitch a ride and go be homeless over there.

Or we could just use the money we would have used on this "warming station" to buy bus tickets for all the homeless.

It's because it makes it sound like they had a house that someone kicked them out of. Like it was in no way a result of their life choices,

If Carl has been "unhoused" for a decade despite having friends like Ann, then it's safe to say that Carl's mental illness and age, combined with the misplaced intentions of do-gooder mental health advocates who fight to stop involuntary committals, is/are the reason for his death.

Temps in Alexandria on Jan 9/10, 2024 were nearly identical to now.

At some point, as sad as it is, we just need to accept the fact that some people simply refuse to be helped. They would rather stay out in the cold or heat drunk as a sunk or worse than to do what any normal person would do to survive.

As George Carlin called it, "soft language". I hate it.
