Yep. Dogs are awesome. Cats can be okay. Losing either one sucks.

I've done it many times over the years, never gets easy. I always sit with them, talking to them while the drift off peacefully. The last lab I had to do this for was only 8 and he was special to me. Cancer and spine issues out of nowhere, It was the best thing but still hurts me after 2 years.

Losing a dog is brutal. I've lost 4 in the last 6 years. 2024 was extremely brutal as I lost two dogs and then my dad on Oct 6th. I decided around Christmas time that it was too quiet around the house, so I bought another Great Dane puppy. He arrived on Christmas eve and when I was looking at his paperwork, I saw that he was born on Oct 6. The same day my dad passed. I don't know what that means, but I cried like a baby when I say that. My mom jokes that he's my dad reincarnated and he certainly has his stubborn personality.

Put my 13 year old yellow lab down the other day. She got bone cancer and could barely get around. Been a rough week. At her age though I knew this was coming sooner than later.

Had labs my whole life and have gone through this before but this one hits different. She was the first dog I bought and raised myself. Was my best buddy who went everywhere with me. House feels empty. I’m happy she got to meet my daughter though. I really feel she was hanging on to meet her before leaving. As much as I’m hurting it’s worth the memories. Hang in there baw.

When you lose a dog as a kid, it's sad and all, but the gears in a kid's head shift rapidly and they get over it quickly.

Well I lost my dog as an adult, and man, that straight up fricked with me. I used to sorta make fun of adults who overly mourned the loss of a dog or cat, not getting what the big deal is. I thought people like that were weirdos

Well that changed. When my dog died, I finally got it. Holy shite, I couldn't believe how badly I mourned his loss. I blubbered for days like a child. I would do grievey shite, like get on my hands and knees, and smell the area of the carpet where he always slept. It was rough man.

We're about to have to make that decision with our 19 year old calico. Not looking forward to it.
