In the UTube that towards the end shows the apparently gentle tsunami coming in , off in the distance you can see lightening.
As I watched it was lots and lots of lightening- that's the volcano and the width of the lightening field is how wide the ash cloud was happening.

Baw thinks he's about to get splashed with some sea breaze, then thinks he can hold onto to a banana tree?

And then the selfie-stick woman...

They need to stop spending money sending officials to complain about global warming and sea level rise, and spend it on basic tsunami education for their citizens.

ETA: Not sure if the life jackets make this life decision smarter or dumber. Means they might float. Also means they had time to run and decided not to.

Only reason I was certain is because I watch SO many YouTube videos on that. Nature is fricking frightening.

Pretty sure this happened about the same time the Casey Anthony trial was happening.

Monterey Bay gauges are showing a rise over the last hour or so.

The tsunami waves will arrive in pulses throughout the day.

The Monterey tidal gauge just recently experienced a rapid rise with the most recent wave arrival (see chart).

Avoid venturing onto the immediate coastline today. LINK

I don't know if this was posted, but this is supposedly a video from Tongo prior to the cloud reaching the island. That bang was the shockwave.

This is some scary shite in Tonga… Tsunami incoming and already no communication to Island, so people unable to check in with loved ones. Fingers crossed everyone is ok. LINK

Think about what happened:

A big ol' rock under the ocean, surrounded by water, rooted to the depths of our planet got so worked up that it shot molten rock and minerals from those depths, out of the water, into the air. That plume of debris, ash, and smoke then acted like a super-cellular storm forming it's own updraft lofting that debris high into our troposphere, then the stratosphere where those particles froze. The particles will then fall back to Earth and on their journey they will create unfathomable amounts of lightning.

An underwater volcano may be the one natural disaster that makes the best use of every aspect of our known planet in regards to climate, geography, meteorology, etc. That's just amazing to me.

This is in no way a scientific post. I know next-to-nothing about the actual workings of a volcano.

I doubt we see anything.

I'm supposed to go dig clams around 4 on a +.1 low tide.

I guess we will see what we see.

Has AOC adjusted her climate doomsday timeline yet? Can we get Al Gore to fly his private jet through the ash cloud to give us a report. Maybe he can get a few higher up dems to join him for the trip.

Has anyone mentioned crawfish prices and how they're going to be effected?

Was planning a boil soon, thanks for any info.

The shockwave is being observed around the globe:

Everyone sharing pressure traces around world, so figured I'd check my PWS in Miami to see if there was an acoustic wave signature from the #TongaVolcano eruption.

Sure enough there is a 2-3 hPa spike at 930 AM EDT, matching when wave should have been propagating over.

Amazing! LINK

Yeah, it was lame here. I understand on the outer coast, there was about a one foot wave. Tidal range here being what it is, I doubt anyone would notice anyway.

I looked up some of these pressure spikes and it appears that it went over my area right when my dog started to freak out and woke me up. Normally he’ll go back to bed in the morning if I don’t get up but not today...
