There are court rulings that students, like in the military, give up some level of rights by attending.
Eta to add the cases:
Bethel School Dist. No. 403 v. Fraser, 478 U.S. 675 (1986)
Morse v. Frederick, 551 U.S. 393 (2007)
Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School Dist., 393 U.S. 503 (1969)
Now, now. There’s no room in this thread for jurisprudence

appeal to authority fallacy
I think you need to brush up in this phrase that you enjoy to say
appeal to authority
You said that because an authority thinks something, it must therefore be true.
It's important to note that this fallacy should not be used to dismiss the claims of experts, or scientific consensus. Appeals to authority are not valid arguments, but nor is it reasonable to disregard the claims of experts who have a demonstrated depth of knowledge unless one has a similar level of understanding and/or access to empirical evidence. However, it is entirely possible that the opinion of a person or institution of authority is wrong; therefore the authority that such a person or institution holds does not have any intrinsic bearing upon whether their claims are true or not.
______________
The little, bitty, teeny, tiny issue with your entire discussion is that I'm not agreeing with what an authority figure "THINKS". I'm deferring to what may be a WRITTEN policy of the school and/or district.
Do you see the difference. You are claiming that I am having a subjective argument fallacy when I'm referencing objective rules by which this kids may have had to abide.

Do you have a better reason for why people hate an entire race? For generations people in the South (and the rest of the country, just less publicly) were taught that blacks were lesser and did not deserve equal rights just because they were black. Many bigoted people hate other groups just because of the way they are, they didn't really do anything to the bigoted party.

as a black person, here are my thoughts:
1. they made a point to distinguish being black from being a nig***, so obviously they don't equate the two.
2. they made very valid points.
3. i pretty much agree with their assessment.
the problem i have is the word was used originally to describe ALL black people regardless of personal character, but over time it has evolved to mean different things to different people and it embodies whatever the user doesn't like about a certain group, even though that group may or may not incorporate all black people. the fact that it originated during slavery, when whites had dominion over blacks, is why i will never use the word. but i doubt kids nowadays have actually contemplated its etymology.
that said, policing language only gives it more power, and that power lies in the very hands of the people who don't have a problem with using it. the pinnacle of irony...

The one I was responding to.
Are you really going to spend time defending that dumb arse comment that the other poster made? He's just as bad as the kids in the video. He just didn't use mean words like they did.

So why do you keep bringing up that seniors end 2-3 weeks earlier.
It sounds dumber every time he says it. No real school system stops coursework for seniors 3 weeks before other classes.

Exactly. Which makes you wonder if nothing was done to the bigoted people personally, why so much disdain for an entire race. And it may be that the bigoted people simply don't agree with their lifestyle, customs, habits, or what have you. Then it would seem to make more sense for the bigoted people to be impartial to that race. But that's never the case. The next thing would be to find out who is responsible for this race of people even existing and take it up with them. Because that's who the bigoted people really have a problem with.

I think you’re being generous here.
I don’t think they should be expelled or forced to repeat their senior year but they deserve the rest of the backlash. It’s blatant racism.

i'm only stating what they said specifically. they don't seem to have much forethought nor clarity in their decision making, so i can't be sure what to make of their internal though process. but at the end of the day, they said a few words we don't like and made a damn video, they're not out hurting people so it's hard for me to care that much about this.
hopefully they'll get out of their bubble and change their thinking one day and they'll reflect upon their stupidity.

it's funny that you think i care about being called that. i don't think it's possible for me to care less.

True. But they don’t need to be expelled, especially for using a word their black classmates use multiple times a day. Either everyone is equal or they’re not.

1. Stupid of the students.
2. What does that have to do with school
3. The school is going to get sued and going to be forced to settle.
