I haven't seen the video but I'm so glad that cell phones and social media weren't around when I was in HS or college.

Didn’t you go to Central Private though?

I just stumbled upon the video. It's out of line to expel then for that video regardless of public vs private. Massive overreaction

ETA yes it was stupid of them to make it and put it online, but damn

Feel free to link any school calendar where students graduate at the end of April through the first week of May.

You're saying this because no such calendar exists and it's a gotcha opportunity for you.

Nice try.

However, when I said what I said, it was in the frame of a normal school year in mind. I should have put that in my post. So that's my mistake there.

At my high school, I took final exams in the first few days of May and didn't walk at graduation until like the third week of may during the last week of the official school year.

That was my experience, take it or leave it.

Why? Are you arguing that it is a restriction of speech by the government? LSU can and has disciplined students for violating the code of conduct off campus. The US military has sanctioned personnel for things they’ve said and done off duty.

Students at public schools agree to abide by codes of conduct as a condition of their continued enrollment. This is a pretty clear violation of any reasonable code of conduct. If you don’t like it, you can go to a private school that is less restrictive.

If true, fair enough. That wasn't the case when I graduated in Alabama back in 93, and it's not the case anywhere here in AZ. Seniors having around 2 weeks to hang around before graduation is fairly commonplace, but 3 weeks would be fairly uncommon I would think.

But whether you like it or not, right or wrong, in pretty much every district in the US students are not officially graduates of high school until they receive their diploma in the mail after graduation. The primary reason for this is to keep seniors from doing something crazy insane at graduation itself, but they could be expelled for all sorts of things up until that point. And the code of conduct students sign makes it perfectly legal.

Carrollton is pretty much Alabama.

Classic Alabama.

Birmingham does a solid multiview.

There are court rulings that students, like in the military, give up some level of rights by attending.

Eta to add the cases:

Bethel School Dist. No. 403 v. Fraser, 478 U.S. 675 (1986)

Morse v. Frederick, 551 U.S. 393 (2007)

Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School Dist., 393 U.S. 503 (1969)

Tinker has been the one most courts have relied on for punishment of online behavior. By the girl's dad has enough money to make it go away so I suppose we will be seeing another SCOTUS ruling in the next couple of years.

I already said that seniors finish 2-3 weeks early ahead of the lower grades and graduation can be held while school is still in. The school year may not be officially over but it is for seniors in a lot of places. So there's that.

It takes about 3 seconds of googling to find that we're still 6 weeks away from the school year's originally scheduled end. So why do you keep bringing up that seniors end 2-3 weeks earlier. They almost certainly did NOT complete the required coursework to graduate.

There are a lot of videos on there that tote the race line. Not just by white people.

Well those videos wouldn't be racist now would they? And no it doesn't work both ways.

Yeah I’m not losing any sleep over these dumbass kids getting kicked out of school

Clearly if they thought that was a good idea then they were too stupid to graduate anyway

I'm sorry, did that person say that what they said wasn't that bad? He clearly said what they said was stupid.

And you know damn well what that other poster was talking about and that he was completely wrong.

He clearly doesn't think it's bad enough for a story in the AJC.
