Straight up said how to make n-words with a hard r, said black people don’t have a dad, love fried chicken and watermelon, don’t make good choices, rob white people and go to jail. Video is pretty goddamn racist in my opinion
Yeah, they definitely dotted the ‘i’ and crossed the ‘t’ in racist. My Lord...That was just plain stupid...
How do you make something like that and not expect to at the very least get your arse kicked?

"Going with the opinions of the lawyers" is pretty damn close to support for the decision of the school that I will grant you did not clarify the status of their diploma.
Merely saying not being allowed to walk and being expelled doesn't say a whole lot.

I don't understand your question
It's real simple.
Do you support having their diploma taken away over behavior that is not illegal, off campus and has nothing to do with the school?

ago. I don't get how you can deny someone a public education unless they were in a school related activity (which they weren't due to school being closed).
Literally every public school has a code of conduct that students have to sign to attend, and pretty much all of them have rules that include things that happen off campus, particularly involving social media (they definitely do at the high school I teach at). If someone posts a video online bullying a kid then they would most definitely have serious repercussions, this falls under the same boat.
Students can easily get suspended or expelled for to things that happen off campus. If a student gets in a fight on their way home off campus they can get suspended for that in my district (they literally have to enter their house before they can be considered off campus by our school rules.

Posting this crap was clearly misguided and ridiculous but let’s be honest, if the tables were turned and the roles reversed, would the outcome be the same?
This board loves to say this, but we've absolutely seen examples of black people losing their jobs over stupidity posted.
Despite popular opinion, being black doesnt protect you from consequences.
I would imagine the black filled jails and alternative schools would support that...

They have to go to another school. They will still get their diploma.
What about the diploma they worked for and earned from this school after they finished the necessary coursework?
Are they going to get that?
Or according to you, do they have to go to school for another year?
And do you support that?

No. What that says is that the lawyers followed the school and district policy as is written. That has nothing to do with my beliefs on the punishment.

Support or not support is not even an issue here. It's about what the school, district, and state policy is on this particular issue.
None of our opinions matter here. I don't even understand the point or points that you are trying to make.

I understand that, however the school year was ended by the govenor on 4/1. So if someone graduates and gets in a fight 2 weeks into Summer, do you withdraw that diploma? How long does the school have this authority?
School has been closed for 17 days.

If you bothered to read the article their school year hasn't been finished officially, so they haven't finished the necessary coursework. You can be expelled from school at any point until you graduate really, legally speaking.

it appears that the district believes that they have authority until such time that the diploma is given to the student

Everyone is saying they are “within their rights and should not face consequences” and “lawyers finna eat” so I’d say yes. And I’m sure if some black guy made a viral video like this about “crackers”, the OT would be perfectly fine with punishing them. But I digress.

so I’d say yes
Then you are lying. Or just stupid. Which is it?
Not one person said it was "not that bad". Everyone is saying it's racist and the kids were stupid.
They just don't think someone should be expelled from school over it.

You keep saying stuff like this like you know it for a fact. My daughter is a senior in high school. They just started back with online classes this week. They have not finished the necessary coursework at this point.

Except it has. The governor did that on 4/1. As far as them thinking they have the legal right to withhold a diploma after 17 days of the school being closed.... I'm sure that's going to be a new case presented in the court of law. I wouldn't really put a lot of stock in the AJC articles.

Actually more like the admin consulted the lawyers and made sure they were clear on this.
The district lawyers more often than not don't decide who gets suspended or not.

Yes it is.
I'm fine with these idiots not being allowed to walk at graduation. However, they should get their diploma if they earned it after finishing the necessary coursework.
I have no problem stating my opinion on this case.
You however do have a problem and are trying to hide your opinion on that.
That's all there is to it really.

I already said that seniors finish 2-3 weeks early ahead of the lower grades and graduation can be held while school is still in. The school year may not be officially over but it is for seniors in a lot of places. So there's that.

For this story, being not allowed to walk at graduation could have the same effect as being expelled from school and essentially the same thing.

Sounds like an overreaction by the school district.
Certainly bad taste. Worthy of a good talking to, but not getting kicked out of school and not being able to graduate.

For the kids that post racist stuff on Tik Tok after diplomas are mailed out, the school mails the kid a rubber stamp that says Cancelled. They are to stamp their diploma, then post a pic of the stamped diploma.
The school maintains this right for 5 years after graduation.
