I would like to see your reviews of the local family owned grocery stores of NOLA. Like Dorignacs, Langensteins, Zappardos, Breaux Mart, Robert's, etc.

Me too! My dearly departed momma used to call Zuppardos “Economical” because of the huge sign plastered on the wall (front wall? Been a long time, but I remember that store being quite dimly lit back in the day. Hard to find the baskets of Leidenheimer that migrated around sometimes)

Miss her - she was a hoot!

The biggest shortcomings with Rouses now is that it is still dependent on AWG on most of its warehousing and delivery to stores.

Donnie Jr. is on the board of directors for AWG.

Thank you very much for this post. I trust we can, as a board, now put this grocery store carping behind us as the question has been settled objectively and definitively.

I must say I am deflated to read about Angus Lind shopping at Langenstein's. This certainly cuts against his self-proclaimed status as a man of the people, and frankly makes me rethink his entire ouevre.

Amazing effort but good lord anyone putting rouses that much higher than Publix has a screw or two loose.

Comparing rouses to Publix is like comparing Louisiana to Florida. Points for fake culture but completely lacking in any objective measure.

I mean, he had something like 20 different criteria and Publix was lacking.

Chick Fil A level customer service only carries you so far when you have other ranking criteria.

They are both very similar, but Rouses has better prices. They both have awesome locations, and they both have some stores that the company doesn’t care about anymore. It’s similar to Kroger in that respect, except Kroger has a greater proportion of shitty locations to good locations than Publix or Rouses.

The lack of consistency us why their brands aren’t on the same level as HEB, much less Whole Foods. HEB is consistently good and offers solid prices. That’s not easy to beat.

Central Market is unparalleled in the grocery game.

That is a damn impressive grocery store.

Chicago had something similar in Mariano’s…but then at some point Kroger bought it and ran it as just another brand. Mariano’s isn’t bad, it it’s nothing like Central Market now.

Word on the street is HEB is buying Rouses

I had heard Publix was going to years ago but that never happened.

Either way, they have their work cut out for them. Some of the Rouses around here are complete shite. I can’t believe how badly they screwed up the old LeBlanc’s stores.

Friend,

Thank you for the wonderful write up of these establishments. Do not pay any attention to these ne'er do wells any attention. Those simpletons bemoaning your efforts have the attention span of a kindergarten child,if that long. Unless there are mammaries, alcohol or high school hi-jinx regaled in a post, three lines is all most of these Neanderthal's can digest.

Have a blessed evening.
