Old article but its becoming more true every day.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that there will be "suicides by the thousands" if entire sectors of the US economy remain shut down in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus threatening to overwhelm hospitals.
"We have to put the country to work," he said on Fox News. "You are going to lose a number of people to the flu, but you are going to lose more people by putting the country in a massive recession or depression."

I don't disagree with him. This shutdown will continue to ruin lives... some people will crack.

People are losing their businesses & retirement at the same time
It’s not good

It’s certainly possible when you consider over 6 million people lost their jobs in the last couple weeks and most of those people live paycheck to paycheck. Not to mention people losing their life savings and retirement

Correct. Lots of business owners will crack.

There are already suicides by the thousands.
He should have said hundreds of thousands.
He should have said hundreds of thousands.

It’s pretty obvious he meant directly due to the shutdown

No question he is very right about this.

Yep.
At least in 08' recession if lost your job you could try and find something else.
This shite if lose job your basically helpless. Maybe a grocery store would hire but that's it.
That helpless feeling will push ppl over the edge.
I'm greatful I can telecommute. For now. But, I don't care what you do, if this goes on for a while everyone will be in danger of joblessness.

Are you trying to make a case that he isn’t correct? I’d be interested in reading if so.

This article is several weeks old, prior to him extending the federal social distancing guidelines. Unfortunately he lacked the political will to follow through on any of the open the country back up talk he started then.

Businesses are the governments tax collectors. Without businesses to collect taxes, the government runs out of power. So expect things to open up real soon. As early as 4/13 and no later than 4/20.

My Dad and I talked for a long time yesterday. He talked about this. I lost everything I owned, including my car and house in 2015 and he talked about the long long road towards getting that back and he's worried that many people won't have to fortitude to it. My situation was different, in that it was directly related to actions on my part and once I personally fixed those actions, the road to recovery could begin. I also didn't have children to feed during the process so I could walk to work and wait tables living in a group home to do it in the beginning. Others won't have that option.
There are some tough days ahead for many, especially if they have to bury the breadwinner or another loved one due to this virus, either directly or indirectly. My heart goes out to them.

Money always wins.
I believe you'll see the general sentiment toward shutdown change over the next couple of weeks as people really start to struggle financially and get bored with being at home.
A lot of people are still scared right now.

In the end the cure will be worst than the virus. The economic and mental issues will be many times worse than COVID-19 will ever be.
People are alone, losing their job in record numbers and soon they will have no hope for the future. Without hope people will do crazy things.
April 30th has to be the end of this of this lockdown. If not I am afraid as to what the future holds.
Ramp up PPE equipment manufacturing, keep those temporary hospitals open, take care of the at risk groups and open this country back up. We cannot surive as a nation with an extend shutdown.

April 1st had to be IMO. The economic aftershocks are already in motion

A serious government level discussion should be had about the value of a human life. Trillions upon trillions of dollars of economic damage for a virus that will kill less than the seasonal flu.
