Kids of all ages benefit from the movement in their school day. It’s good for the brain and the body.

In a perfect world we’d have PE embedded in their day, especially after lunch.

Have you seen how the Chinese make their kids move in the classroom to help their attention spans? It's hilarious, but also I bet effective.

Well, he’s 80yo, pretty good shape as well. Can he run a marathon? Probably not, but can you?

He’s objectively not in good shape.

PE is relatively cheap once established and a lot can still be done with limited funding. But, I’ve built a HS weight room and there is no “cheap” way to do it safely and correctly.

Yeah but they’re probably threatened with execution if they don’t participate

I’ve never cared what shape an 80 year old man is. He could be as round as a bowling ball and it doesn’t matter. You know why? Because he’s 80.

Isn’t this the one that Triple H is “in charge of”, or was that something else. Regardless…

You may remember Obama got rid of this and told kids to play video games instead.

President Obama, speaking to the American Medical Association (mostly about health care, such as it is), listed “video games” as a potential bad guy… for your health.

The second step that we can all agree on is to invest more in preventive care so that we can avoid illness and disease in the first place. That starts with each of us taking more responsibility for our health and the health of our children. It means quitting smoking, going in for that mammogram or colon cancer screening. It means going for a run or hitting the gym, and raising our children to step away from the video games and spend more time playing outside.

The biggest reason PE gets cut is funding issues so unless he's going to also draft a proclamation that magically pays for the teachers and equipment needed (as well as insurance for sending kids up the rope) this shite is never going to happen.

I truly don’t understand wtf schools are doing all day.

When I was in high school, PE was always "taught" by coaches. If I recall, the way it worked was.. For each hour there would be 4 PE classes. The football coach had one, the softball coach had one, maybe the baseball coach and maybe an assistant coach.. Something like that. All you really had to do to pass was to dress out.. but most of the boys and some of the girls.. well the boys would play basketball or kickball... mostly basketball and the girls went into what was called "the little gym" and I think they did the same..

But what I am saying is.. what exactly needs to be funded? Even if its just an hour (well about 40 mins when you factor in going dress out then going back in to change before next class, etc) playing a game of basketball (actually from what I remember there were several teams of 3, half court with two games going at the same time 10 min games), but lets assume that's bare minimum. How much funding is needed to provide that? It used to get competitive in those games and I think that is healthy.. If I had to assume.. because injuries did happen (I don't recall anything serious just sprained ankles, an elbow to the face, etc).. how much of it today is a liability situation? Because it doesn't take much for the lawsuits to come out.

How many high schools dont have a weight room?

Honest question.

I know one South of Atlanta that didn't have a full weight room. But they bench and squat and the kind of exercises that rich people pay tons of money for (old commercial tires and sledge hammers).

There isn't a football program or wrestling program in the country that doesn't have some sort of weight room already in place.

Weight room, basketball court, soccer field, and baseball diamond are the most common examples of what every high school already has. No additional resources needed for a PE class. Add basketballs, kickball, and soccer balls and your supplies are done.
