You know you don’t have to sign up your kid for travel ball.

I went to my niece’s recital a few years ago when I was still living in BR. Needless to say, Matt had to keep punching me to wake me up.

Travel ball is a racket designed to separate you from your money using your child as the reason. I'm guessing this "World Series" is happening at Orange Beach, AL as usual.

Soooo you get to go to a tourney, spend a dickload of money on the condos as well as food , spend a 4 day weekend sweating your arse off at he ball park and you get very little beach time. Also, they probably want you to purchase for junior some new unis and at least a new bat

been there , done that, then my son discovered that football was a lot less bullshite especially when he discovered what he knew all along.....he was not going to be the next Derek Jeter or anything close.

How old is your kid?

If he is at least 11... I can understand.

Most of these 6-8 year old travel ball teams are daddy ball as well... just with nicer uniforms.

I've seen parents coach their 5 year old rec teams...then the next year they want to ensure their kid is on the same team as all of their friends kids, so they form "The Bawcornville Bats" and go play in all these tournaments while having 2513 fundraisers and raffles to pay for it all because can't afford the fees with that $900 a month Acadia note.

It's the same kids and the same coaches, they aren't any better. Same poor technique. However, a bunch of other "elite" parents have formed the same shitty teams, so it's the same shitty competition as before.

Dance revues (or is it reviews?) and recitals are one of the main reasons I hope my next child isn’t a girl

I saw two pretty hefty guys get into a great roll around in the dirt, not landing any punches fight at Girard when I was watching my nephew play a couple years ago. It was hilarious.

I know some people going to Orange Beach, some going to Gulfport, some going to Panama City.

But yeah, all the same things apply.

A simple google search will find hundreds of college and professional coaches, with videos and articles stating how horrible an idea it is for a kid at that age to focus on one sport.

7th grade football can be hard to pull off when recovering from Tommy John surgery, though.

I have no clue. I’m just glad they gave it up. I can’t wait til me, you and Nuck put together a travel squad for the boys, the same way CP has. Are we gonna have corn hole tournaments to fund our World Series trips?

my son ain’t playing ball until he learns how to read first

He’s either 4 so we have time

But yea, I’m sure we will be spending a shitton of time at the ball fields in the upcoming years, and honestly, I can’t wait

I feel like all these people who are complaining about travel ball parents are either (A) socially awkward with no people skills or (B) they’re actually the parents they complain about... I’ve seen a little of what they’re talking about, but it’s not really as bad as they say (from what I’ve seen, and you know I’ve been around it for a long time)

I love reading threads like this. It really make me appreciate my parents. I think I'm going to give them a call this afternoon.

panties riding high over kids playing travel ball. wow, you must be a blast to be around.

let's get them around the playstation with your kids, eat junk food and lay around all day, ahh the American Dream!

We certainly don't want active, competitive children growing up in this country.

My kids 8. Absolutely loves baseball. It’s all he does. At home, by his self, in the car hell anywhere. And before you say he’s living my dreams out or failures as a kid your wrong. Me and his mother both show/ride horses and would love to be elsewhere on the weekends. But My kid is the most important thing to me. Yes it’s about money but hell what isn’t! I dont care if next week he says he wants to be a tuba player in the band, then alright, we are gonna be the best damn tuba play we can be.

I really don't get the OT's obsession with travel ball. It's like five or six threads a week.

I will say, there was a you woman and her two kids standing outside a small grocery store over the past two weekends begging for money to send her 7 year old to his world series.

Judging by the looks of her, she seemed like the type who drove an old shitty car and lived in a trailer.
