wanna count soccer and hoops too?
Seriously, it’s money grabs for the organizers. I’m not going to fault a coach for wanting to compete, but it’s pathetic to advertise as a ‘National Champion’, complete with rings and banners.

Yet my Facebook (dear facebook,) is covered with moms and dads posting about how proud they are that Junior is playing in the World Series!
Everyone gets a trophy.
Apparently every person on my FB has a son who won a championship ring. Every one.
I admit that the rings are cooler than the LL trophies I got when I was a kid.

I remember playing in the rec league, the best players from that league would play on an all star team against others on similar teams. First in the area then in the state then in the region then in the country. There was only one winner for each tournament, there was no 34 different categories. A, aa, aaa only one team one winner. And if you lost your season was over no tournament the next week. And players didn’t burn out.

supposed to be some high level D1 coaches there
Have you scheduled your personal evaluation with Paul M yet? Don't fall behind the other parents and fail your child because of your pisspoor planning!!
I also heard - I'm not supposed to share this but what the hell - that if you go to the tournament in Galveston, Jeff Luhnow is going to be personally there to scout the kids. I mean, it's a tournament for 6 year olds, but winners play up.

Most of these travel ball teams couldn’t hold the jock straps of the old squires league Baw’s back in the early mid 90’s now that was real travel ball. and don’t forget about the old millerville league.

Thanks! My son is playing this week!

These "World Series" tournaments are broken down to 3 divisions for the bracket play: top third, middle third, and bottom third skilled teams. So a third of these "champs" are just the best team of the worst group

Not really.
We played 5 games.
1st Game - Lost 24-0
2nd Game - Lost 9-3
3rd Game - Lost 15-0
4th Game - Lost 8-3
Consolation Game: Lost 12-11
We didn't get a trophy.

My stepson will be in the OB next week(end) playing in the "WS". His bio dad has the poor kid convinced he's going to be the next Mike Trout...but yet the boy can only crack his clubs B team; and then he still doesn't play all innings. He is also trying to talk my wife (the boys mother) into sending him to some private school like an hour away so he has a better chance of playing baseball in high school.
I'm sorry, but at some point you have to be honest with your kid. You can't make your travel clubs A team and you cant make your high school team then you're not going to be Bryce Harper.
His dad is the classic "living through his kid" syndrome.

But this USSSA travel ball crap... everyone can play in the world series! You need "points to qualify" but as long as you play in a few of their sponsored tournaments, you will get enough points
Dude! Everyone of those kids is being scouted by the MLB. What are you talking about???

They'll really enjoy waking up at 5am to travel an hour away to play a game at 8am they couldn't give a shite about.
When our oldest was 10 we got snookered into going to the "world series" in Destin. Well, well, well, the kids were already tired of baseball (been practicing since JAN) and wanted nothing to do with it. They would rather have been run ruled in 3 innings just to go out and have fun on the beach and waterparks.
If you have a kid don't be fooled into this bullshite, enjoy a real vacation and let the kids be kids. They had fun and enjoyed baseball during the season and in the state tournament. After that it was vacation time.

Same as soccer. The gold bracket medal looks the same as the silver or bronze...so its kind of funny to claim a win when you didn't play the top teams. My son's team did this the last half of last season since they wanted to play an age bracket to play U13.
When my son played up with real U13 in state those (gold bracket) kids were insanely better than the kids he was accustomed to playing. He knows now though. Hopefully by the end of this U13 campaign he'll be one of those kids. Going to take some marked improvement.

That hits the nail right on the head. We can laugh about it now but my son said that's how they felt when they "had to play when they went to the beach".

This is exactly my issue with all of this. No offense... y'all have no business playing travel ball or playing in a "world series"

These kids have seen hundreds more at bats than almost any kid did back in the 90s. The best travel teams now would crush all star teams from that era...and I was an all star kid from that era
