This is a little overdramatic. I doubt many parents are forcing their unwilling sons to play baseball

MOST baseball parents are that way lugnut.. it’s just that there are a few bad apples out there, and people love to run with the ‘travel ball parent’ stereotype.. and that is especially prevalent on the OT

But yea, I’m sure we will be spending a shitton of time at the ball fields in the upcoming years, and honestly, I can’t wait

If you do the travel ball route... just remember it's ultimately about your child, not you. This is where 75% of parents have gotten it wrong.

We certainly don't want active, competitive children growing up in this country.

With this many "divisions" and championships with 3 team divisions... there is nothing "competitive" about what is happening here.

Active? These kids would be burning off energy running around and playing tag and on the trampoline and in the pool anyways. No net benefit here.

And I agree the begging for money is ridicules. And I agree that there are parents that are crazy about it but it’s not the norm. If you take the time and find a good coach who helps develop the right way, I believe they will enjoy it more.

My kids 8. Absolutely loves baseball. It’s all he does. At home, by his self, in the car hell anywhere. And before you say he’s living my dreams out or failures as a kid your wrong. Me and his mother both show/ride horses and would love to be elsewhere on the weekends. But My kid is the most important thing to me. Yes it’s about money but hell what isn’t! I dont care if next week he says he wants to be a tuba player in the band, then alright, we are gonna be the best damn tuba play we can be.

Has he tried playing other sports or activities, or is baseball all he knows?

You can sugarcoat it all you want to, but you know going to the dance and ballet recitals is about on par with sandpapering your dick then pouring crab boil on it

And that is the pleasurable part. My daughter does that shite and if it was only the recital, I could stomach that and the all of the gritty stuff scuffing me up, because its a weekend most of the time once a year. She got into competition dance and goes to trophies for all get togethers in places like Mobile, BR, Houma, Houston. Talk about a racket and a sandpapering of your dick . When all is said ad done, dance ends up costing you about 500.00 a month for about 9-10 months out of the year.

You wanna talk about whack jobs try the dance moms, they all watch that dance mom show on A&E and they are devoted to it. THey home school their kids so they can get to the weekend competitions regularly....it's crazy....meanwhile the people who hold these competitions are laughing all the way to the bank. I think I missed my calling....should have done that kind of stuff......150.00 minimum per kid and there are hundreds if not thousands of them at these weekend competitions and for those that are "conventions" 300.00 extra. Makes travel ball seem like bargain and travel ball can get expensive too

You’re crazy if you think that I’m NOT going to try to do what’s best for my son...

he’s already on a tight schedule: (4 days a week, usually Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday)

School from 7:30-3:00
Snack time from 3:15-3:30
Tee time 3:30ish - 4:00
Groundballs/PFP 4:00-4:30
Outfield work 4:30-5:10
Live BP 5:10-til he’s hungry

Can’t wait until he’s old enough to start running and doing push-ups and shite.. the wife (ex all conference softball player @ Arizona) wants him to do long toss drills but at only 4 years old I don’t think he’s quite ready for that yet, we’ll see what his pediatrician says after we get his elbow checked out (been a little swollen the past few days but he’s working through it)

He still shows horses, basketball camps, soccer, and wants to start football this year, hunts, and fishes. Hell whatever the little brat wants to he does. As long as he’s not sitting in the damn house I’m fine

Feelings hurt. Definitely has a kid in travel ball going pro one day.

We’re pretty much done. Did Cooperstown last summer and an international trip this summer. He’s playing with his school team mostly this summer.

I disagree. If travel ball is gonna cause problems at home, it should be cut back. You don’t become your children’s slaves after you have them. You should both have adult lives doing adult things while making time every now and then for some kid stuff. Your kids should want to grow up to be adults.

Im more or less repeating Jordan Peterson so these aren’t really original thoughts...though I concur with them. Lots of dads and moms enjoy the social aspect of tournaments....moms generally like fellowship with other moms in the stands while watching their kids have fun. Dads enjoy it too.

I think he was talking about how parents should conduct themselves at the park

But you’re completely correct though

My oldest had 3 dances in each competition, 4 competitions. Each dance was $45 each competition. So each competition, we paid $135. Each dance lasts approx 3 min, and two of them are "whole squad" ones so she's not even on the stage the entire time. But let's say 9 minutes of total time spent competition for $135. That's over $800 per hour.

The "costs" are basically, facility rental and a/v costs, a stage rental, and the trophies/plaques/pins. Since they give out so many damn awards, I am sure they get a volume rate. They don't charge admission... and I'm sure some of the facility rentals aren't exactly cheap... but let's say there is 200 girls and each of them paid $135... that's $27,000, and many of the girls have more than 3 dances so they pay more than $135.

Somebody is making serious, serious bank.

Hell, we were driving home from the grocery on Sunday and my kids noticed their dance school director was next to us at the stop light... driving a nice big Land Rover.

Where do you play? Many 6 year old teams are coach-pitch.
