MIL should be the one making that call, not you
Disagree. Not saying hes making the right call, because 2 kids is not hard to watch, but no one makes a decision on what's best for my child over me and my wife. If she thinks she can take it, but we don't, it's our call.
But again, that's just arguing who makes the decision, not that his decision is necessarily what I'd do.

And if she thinks she can and he doesn't feel comfortable, he needs to find a real daycare.
I mean it doesn't sound that great to say I'll let you retire early to watch our kid for next to nothing but you're gonna do it our way.

What would the alphas of the OT do to put useless BIL in his place?
I hope I would not let him control my life, even for a moment. It’s easy to say and hard to do, so I am not sure that is what I would actually do if in your situation.
As for trashiness, I am not sure this is much different than a lot of families, so I wouldn’t worry about that. Sometimes I am perceived as the judgmental a**hole and sometimes I am probably judged (joke’s on them because they are not nearly as harsh on me as I deserve).

This sounds like it’s yiur first kid. Infants are far tougher than we give them credit for and I’m sure your MIL can handle an infant and toddler.
Your BIL is being childish and that’s squarely on him.
Trashy level is low IMO.

SILs husband threw a fit and sent my wife a long rude text
I'd put a foot in his arse.....you need to put him on notice that if he has anything to say, to say it to you and not your wife.

You're BIL needs to grow up and work out his schedule to allow him to play his shitbox at times that don't interfere with family dealings.

Today my wife told her mother that the toddler couldn’t be here while she is watching our son unless she had some one else to assist.
Your wife is being a count

The text you sent him should have just been to clarify which sonic you’d be meeting him at.
Your BIL sounds like a POS.

First your wife telling your MIL that she couldnt care for the toddler was the wrong approach, and kicked it all off. Should have been a conversation to start not an instant "no-go".
Of course it was a long in person conversation. My MIL agreed and already planned to bring help (aunts) when watching the toddler. I kept it brief for the sake of an already long post.

You brought this to the right place.

Any random baw, this would be the response, but this is a person I will have to see frequently throughout the year. I am trying to be diplomatic, however my patience is already worn thin. At this point it’s going to be merciless public ridicule, accompanied by whatever level of violence he lets it escalate to. Frankly if he did anything other than stare at the floor I’d be surprised.

The OT never disappoints with this kind of stuff.

Congrats to you and the Mrs on the first child. It is an awesome experience

Thank you. Petty babysitting dispute aside, it has been an amazing week.

You are being a pretentious ahole saying your MIL can only watch one kid. You realize that your MIL handle 2 kids already with your SIL and your wife right? You are right, its a lot of work and they keep you busy. But dangerous? That's ridiculous.
You basically just told your BIL that his kid is trashy and too hard for someone to watch with another kid around.
Daycares have 4 infants per employee FWIW.

the obvious answer is to frick the SIL and send him video

I'm assuming you and the wife will want more kids in the near future who's going to watch your toddler while MIL is watching the next baby in 2years?

Damn, I’m getting lots of pretentious. Are you guys copying one another or is it really that “pretentious”?
I guess we are having a first time parent approach to the situation, which makes sense given that we are first time parents.
Well, it’s too late at this point. If plug BIL had spoken to me like a man we might have worked this out and I could have possibly accepted that I was overreacting about the two children. Now if we cave, I’m rewarding his temper tantrum. Nope, line has been drawn, and I owe him a chat about proper channels for filing his complaints, possibly accompanied by an arse kicking depending on how he takes it.

Make the SIL and MIL play the CptRusty Trombone and send those to the BIL.
If it’s Arkansas, the wife and FIL (if around) will probably want to be in the video too.
