I would think Top Golf and D&B would be the last thing a tourist should to in New Orleans. It's fine to skip Bourbon Street, but maybe go find some live music, or eat at a local acclaimed restaurant. Why travel there if you're going to the same national chains you can find in other cities?
While agree completely, it's the same reason people eat at McDonald's when they go to Paris. Comfort.

Br would have better chance to make it over Nola simply because of LSU. You could get that college crowd to come support it by way of advertising and promotional deals aimed to that specific group.
On the other hand....Bunch of hipsters and thugs don't really like golf.
Tourists are too interested in hand grenades.

Lol. No. TopGolf's business model has zero to do with college students.

And people are forgetting the amount of bachelor parties come to Nola that would love to go hit balls at top golf during the day pregaming for the night.
Ask most people that went to Austin or Houston or Dallas for their bachelor party and they will tell you how top golf was a great idea.
Most people also don't live around a TG so when they are in a town that has one they will want to try it.
The frat stars in BR wouldn't pump nearly the money just the bachelor parties will in nola

People can do the local and culture stuff as well as visit places like this.
Bachelor parties, corporate groups, college kids, etc will appreciate having another option for fun outings or team building events.
Hell, there is a bowling alley in downtown that stays damn busy with these kids of groups all of the time.
TIGERLEE is a stupid troll when it comes to any Nola discussion. It's best to just ignore him.

I see a couple people already set you straight. But good lord, this is just hilariously wrong.

the fratstars can barely keep LSU Golf open...they were on the verge of closing up shop a few years ago.

When I was in NYC back in 2015, my wife and I occasionally just grabbed a quick Starbucks. We still hit up a bunch of great local places, but every once in a while, we just needed something quick that we knew.

I'd say the Frat Stars at Tulane and Loyola have more pocket change to pump into a TG than LSU

This story just popped up in my FB newsfeed so it must be true. Haha

Top golf is so 15 years ago
Posted on 3/2/17 at 8:15 am to wizziko
times-pic employees managed to find it for 50 years
I'm sure the golfers and touristas will be able to figure it out
y'all act like that location is in Afghanistan

Gotta love the armchair analysts who come out of the woodwork when something positive for NOLA is announced. Joe Jaeger and the Topgolf executives are pretty successful. I have a feeling they've done their diligence on the market and site.

The first thing I noticed in the propasal is the parking lot is to the side of the range.
frick that
I have been to topgolf and seen plenty of balls smoked over the side net.
The lots for the two in houston are behind the clubhouse/restaurant

In Tempe, they told us that if any of our group hit over the net we would be banned for life from all of Top Golf. We had a business outing at the Top Golf in Allen and people were smoking them over the side net consistently.

I think this is a fine location for Top Golf, and much better than trying to put some mixed-use project in that spot.
However, access is definitely an issue that will need to be addressed. I've visited the TP building many times and there is no easy way to get there from I-10 West and downtown. Additionally there was always a lot of truck traffic back there slowing things down.

It really is a difficult location to get to. I imagine that part of the deal is the city and the business sinking some infrastructure into the surrounding streets/lighting. And it is surrounded by some pretty shitty areas.
I'm still kind of shocked that's the location they chose but...whatever.

Not the greatest neighborhood...but location wise, where else would be better? Right off I-10 and clearly visible to everyone passing. Conveniently in the middle between Metairie/Kenner, westbank and NO East. Convenient distance from CBD so they can attract tourists that are staying in downtown hotels plus get business for lunch and happy hour from people who work in CBD.
I don't know where else they'd put it that would've been better for business. Wouldn't be surprised to see some other investors try to buy property in that neighborhood for other business/entertainment development.

I agree with everything you are saying but I wouldn't call that area a neighborhood, its really a narrow track of land between 1-10 and the railroad tracks (two unmovable barriers) with a bunch of warehousing, industrial, and manufacturing buildings.
Yes, I would drive there but right now its a location that you cannot build any walkability around. Maybe that could change over time but its not at all like the warehouse district developing which was walkable to to the CBD, the River, the Dome, and the French Quarter.
