I let it ride for routine traffic. If he starts questioning or wants to search me for some reason, i put my hands at 10 and 2 and calmly tell him where my firearm is

this would always be my practice...no point in escalating the situation simply because of a traffic violation.

it is my understanding that they already know by flag on your identification once they run your license plate. Granted you are driving your own vehicle

If I'm carrying, my weapon is near my wallet so I'm letting him know before I reach for my license. I find that being upfront about it puts the cop at ease and they're usually appreciative.

You are required by law to inform them, or you could lose your concealed carry license. Put your hands on the steering wheel, advise him that you have a CCL, and wait for his instructions. You will have absolutely no problem.
This isn't rocket science. (at least to the law abiding citizens). I guess to some factions, this protocol, and the ability to follow instructions, is simply too complicated.
