Good answer. What if you have a registered gun in your glove compartment? Do you typically need a permit for that? Asking for a friend.
Depends on the city/state

You're not required to in MS, and no, I would not tell him.
I don't see any valid reason to.

Tell him upfront and your traffic stop will go smoothly.
This makes too much sense for some people.

Just spoke with my neighbor who's a sheriff. He advised me to never reach for anything before the cops approach and make contact. Said it makes him extremely nervous when people do that. Hands on the wheel until you receive instructions is what he advocates.

every time i've been pulled over, i did not reach for anything, including license, until the cop could see me in the window and had communicated to me what to do ... boggles the mind people think it's ok to start reaching in their pockets and glove compartment for documents to shorten the time the cop has to wait/etc ... esp boggles the mind some people, like the guy in the sc video, think it's ok to get out of the car ...

It's the first thing you tell him.

You don't need a permit to carry in your car.
In Alabama you do if it is accessible.

I've been pulled over several times while carrying. 2 BRPD, 4 LSP, 1 TDPS. Told every one of them I had my gun immediately. Local cops didn't even seem to care. Asked where it was and just carried on like it was No biggie. The Texas trooper was a little more annoyed and fussed at me for having it in the car. In the end he let me go tho.

I would 100% tell the cop.

I usually have mine mounted on a device I made myself that I attach to my forearm. It is a small piece but it can still be bothersome no matter how loose the long sleeve that conceals might be.
I already know the LEO will be suspicious of me wearing a jacket in the 94 degree summer heat of Georgia. As soon as I pull over and put the car in park I just roll the window down and dangle both arms out the window. The two times this has occurred it seemed as if the cop was very uneasy approaching my car as I could see him in my side mirror. I just raised my voice very loudly and said "officer, I have a gun mounted on a slide on my right forearm that is hidden under my sleeve . I pose no threat and I have a CCL in here to show you. Come closer and please feel free to handcuff me until you feel safe."
Both times they drew on me and proceeded to handcuff my wrists together as they dangled out of window. The only stupid thing I did that could have escalated the situation was I accidentally hit the accelerator with my foot and it revved the engine right when he was putting the handcuffs on me. The only thing I would recommend ( and what I will do if ever in the situation again) is to turn the engine off and not just put it in park.
The lesson here is that you should always tell the cop immediately and do your best to put him at ease.
