so you spend a few hours a day in New Orleans for work, so you're super concerned about its citizenry and whether the city government is working for them?
You care about the city because your mom was born here?
If your family is still here, they must not be so concerned so just chill and enjoy Baton Rouge.
Typical NOLA mindset.
Nope, you're not NOLA enough to be "one of us," so your opinion doesn't matter.

Government is a reflection of the citizens

Which compounds frustration with the corruption and incompetence.
A fair number of us earn our living in New Orleans, and have a vested interest in the city without having a domicile inside city limits. It does not mean we can't see what's happening and have a perspective on what might be better or worse for the city.
Our vehicles are just as damaged from the streets as yours. Our vehicles go through traffic cameras as much as yours. We spend money in the city just as you do, thus paying sales taxes and whatever other taxes might be imposed on meals and services. We pay to park just as you do, in pay lots or on the street. If we're not residents, and stay too long in a residential area, we get tickets for not having residential parking permits. We, too, have a financial stake.

what opinion? that Mitch sucks, city government sucks, there is extreme violence, extreme poverty, lack of business investment, etc.?
no fricking shite. i just think there's a whole group of people who don't live here who get off on New Orleans being fricked up.

Bruhhh if you didn't pop out the wound at old Charity and have a sip of bright yellow ice cream flavored snow blitz from Hanson's and a stale moon-pie as Dahcta Fontenot slapped you on the arse, you can't have an opinion.

Own a business, employ over 100 people.
I just don't get why people get so defensive. New Orleans isn't even back up to pre Katrina population numbers, while all the other parishes are growing. So it's not just a few people with the same sentiment.

Odd that living in CBD and FQ over the last decade I've seen a lot of parking lots almost all being put under the same managing company, and in that time you have seen the street parking hours move up and Saturdays change from free street parking.... all pushing more people to park in garages.

i don't think anyone is really defensive. the city has a ton of problems, just like it has for the past 40-50 years. i don't think anyone would honestly argue that. we're definitely reversing the upward trend the city was on for awhile.

Of course New Orleans has it's fair share of shitty citizens, but that includes those in local government. However, when you have things like toll funds from a bridge that are supposed to be used for street projects and to improve the area and millions turn up missing when the audits are done, that's guv'ment. And then the mayor knowing that the millions were stolen/wasted tries to put the citizens on the hook for another 20 years for about 400 million....that's guv'ment too. Luckily, people fought and that was all reversed. So some people are fighting for something better.
Government will never fix all of people's problems. People have to help themselves. But again, if you got guv'ment giving shite to people for no good reason, funding their bad habits, etc., then you've just created more problems. Shitty people + guv'ment = shite.

And New Orleans is well known. If you ask the average American what the capital of LA is, you'd prob get New Orleans for your answer.
You have pro sports, and a deep rooted history in this country. It is only natural that it gets talked about more than say Laffy or Shreveport.
Like I had noted earlier, LA has a problem. A serious problem with politics and just all around shady business.

I mean, I suppose there's a twisted subset with this mentality, but you're basically degrading and degenerating a guy who seems to be doing nothing but lamenting this issue.

But don't you understand? The guy doesn't have strong enough ties to New Orleans to lament the issue.

I can talk shite about my retarded brother, but you better not talk shite about my retarded brother.
This isn't just a thing with NOLA, this is basic across the board in all aspects everywhere.

The current state of affairs pales in comparison to the early and mid-90s, talking about 300+ killings year after year (2017 could possibly reach 200). Anyone who survived the 90s can attest to these days not being nearly as grim as the St. Tammany, Jefferson, Tangi, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, Ascension, Assumption, Livingston, and EBR OTers want you to believe.

Why are you always such a bitch in these threads? Someone from NOLA clearly did something to you. What was it?

Someone from NOLA called me a bitch once. It really hurt my feelings. That's about all I can think of.
