quote:

“During his last year, Dr. King advocated for the Poor People’s Campaign. To honor his legacy we’re announcing that our minimum wage will now align with what’s widely considered a livable wage: $15/hr.

“How will this be possible? We are simultaneously eliminating tipping. While so many of you generously give, we would rather that our employees have a dependable wage than rely on compensation from our customers. Tipping has a unique role in our country and is often linked to racial oppression. It’s time for it to end.”

quote:

Tipping, not unlike policing in America, can be traced to this nation’s history of enslavement, pursuit and control of Black bodies.

“After the Civil War, white business owners, still eager to find ways to steal Black labor, created the idea that tips would replace wages,” civil rights advocate Michelle Alexander wrote in The New York Times. When President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the nation’s first minimum wage into law, it excluded restaurant workers, whose ranks were heavily populated by Black people and women.

quote:

Eric Spivack, owner of The Lab by Alchemy Coffee, is not the first merchant to sour on tipping. But the hardships of the pandemic, and its impact on business and his employees, left him asking questions about the practice of tipping at his coffee shop in the 800 block of West Broad Street near Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Historically, a third of his employees’ compensation came from tips, he said.

Wasn’t Dr. King a perv? What’s the fascination with someone who died decades and decades ago and that none of us met?

Why? $15 an hour is more than they are most likely making in tips per hour based on the average clientele of an Applebees and the fact that their prices are cheap as frick.

My bartenders at my place average between $30 and $40 an hour on tips alone. If I had to implement a $15 minimum wage and cut out tipping, they would be taking a massive pay cut. frick all that noise.

Isn't the draw to these jobs the fact that you can make a ton of money through tips?

What a load of crap.

Tipping is not an American invention. It originated in Europe. Those who subjugate blacks simply morphed into those who want them dependent to keep them in their class, and today, that is the Democrat party. Forever in their station, forever dependent, and thus forever servants of the party. Them leaving that station does the party harm, not good, because only by dangling the carrot can they retain their power in government, and over them. You never really give them the carrot.

He should ask the people earning tips if they would rather $15/ hour or the current min wage plus tips. The results will shock him.
