re: Thoughts on 34 year old professional dating 19 year old college student

I have a 19 year old daughter, she is more mature than I am.
I just asked her about dating a 34 year old man and she said "gross"
I said what do you mean? she said it is gross both ways. other than the obvious reason, why would a 34 yr/old man want to be with a 19 yr/o girl? Then she said, other than the obvious reason (she made the $$$ sign), why would a 19 yr old girl want to be with a 34 yr old man?
My step mom is 15 years younger than my dad (72-57) and she is 9 years older than me. They are incredibly happy together (been married for 28 years) but it is a totally different scenario from (34-19)

You don't think teens and young adults are less emotionally mature today than our parents/grandparents were 40-50 years ago? There are a fair amount of studies showing that while they are more advanced intellectually as a whole, that they're hitting maturity marks later and later for a variety of reasons.

Not saying anything about the OP situation specifically but I do wonder how many of these "relationships" that you see being discussed on here are actually sugar baby/arrangement situations and whoever is telling the story either leaves that part out or doesn't realize it. I wonder if the 19 year old in this situation describes the 34 year old to her friends as her boyfriend, or if they don't even know who he is. It'd be a good test of what the relationship actually is.

I have a good buddy that is engaged to a girl 19 years younger than he. They're doing okay in the relationship (obviously since they are engaged) but the age difference does cause some issues. She is in her 20s and still enjoys the club/bar scene. He's in his 40s and likes to mellow at home more. Interestingly, my wife (no pics) thought the same as yours- that's weird and you should not hang out with them- until they had us over a few times. She has become good friends with the 'youngin.' I have to think every situation is different as far as this goes.

Kinda agree here. Also it’s probably me just just getting closer to 40 but 19 looks REALLY young these days. 25-26 about the youngest that I feel like I would date if I were single, even if it were just to be kinda casual.

Kinda funny how times change. If you see a 19 yr old girl with 2 kids today, it’s usually a sign of their immaturity.

Women want security, and older men are more established and better able to provide that. Younger women will always like older men.
Dating for me is easier and I have more options now than I did in my twenties.
